Default Rough Shifts WRX 2011, 79k km

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a wrx 2011 thats around 79k kms about 50k miles.

Everytime I shift gears whether it is going from 1-2, 2-3, I am feeling very rough shifts like I am shifting on rocks. I am able to go into gears normally, its just the feeling of shifting rough and the feel of maybe something hitting the gearbox walls like metal while shifting. Even when I try to shift like a granny, I can feel a roughness when shifting, like it isnt lubricated enough kinda feeling.

Any ideas?

Would help alot, appreciate it~!

Obvious question perhaps, but have you checked the oil level in the tranny?

Even if it's full, have you changed your gear oil? At 50k miles I would have changed it already. Go with motul.

yeah man^ Are you the original owner?
If not there's a 90% chance the last guy never even drained the oil it broke in on, which means it's blacker than used diesel motor oil now and full of metal.
Drain that crap asap.

Ok, so I took your guys’ advice and drained that **** ASAP. Didn’t really take that long nor was it really that hard to change the diff and trans oil besides the diff fill plug was a b to remove. Anyways, I used Motul Gear 300 75w90 for both trans and rear oil. Shavings on the magnet of the bolt had a normal amount on them. The oil was somewhat clean with of course shavings in the oil.

After all that, the shifts feel even rough. I’m not just saying that but I can literally feel rough sensation going into gears like I’m gonna wreck something. I tried shifting more softly - it’s smooth but sometimes I’d still feel this rough shift like it’s weird. Like it isn’t lubricated and you can feel every shift.

Have you inspected the shifter linkage to see if it is factory or aftermarket? Popular upgrade with these and maybe the adjustment is off.

A friend of mine took his car in for service recently and they had to replace a damaged fork from the original owner.
