The AEM has been great for me over the past few weeks and is working well. Besides that it matches the gauge cluster awesome! It is equipped with both a 1V and 5V output which can be connected directly to engine management or connected to a serial connector and directly to a laptop. They also provide all the calibration tables to use their sensor reading through a laptop. The AEM also does have a sensor error light but obviously I haven't had it for long enough to see if it triggers when the sensor goes bad. I'll see how that goes over the next few months.
Thanks for reviving a stale thread Zefy

Part 3: Master Cylinder Bracing
Let’s get this thread alive again with something new!
Improving braking performance on subaru’s for anyone wanting to push their car’s further has always been sought after. Different pad’s, rotors, brake upgrades, stainless lines, etc. but often the mater isn’t looked at as much as it could be. Braces have been brought to market by several companies to solidify the position of the master and reduce flex through the booster and firewall. Pedal feel has been likened to increase similar to the feel of stainless brake lines. Discuss Jameson Smith Dale's Operations Manager [email protected] 604-530-9160 |

I picked up a Turn In Concepts master cylinder brace for my car about 3 weeks ago but haven't had time to install it yet. I already did Stoptech Street pads and Centric premiums on all four wheels about four months ago and really like the improved bite of that combo. I've always heard Subaru's had less than stellar brake "feel" but personally don't have anything to compare it to. When I get the brace installed, I will report back on how it feels and performs.

I am looking to change my brakelines to braided then get a brace to see the change in feel. I hope the brake lines will improve the pedal feel.

Liking that exact brake package for when i have to replace mine. Did you do the the whole bedding process? Read a bunch about brakes in a faq somewhere. Can you elaborate on how they feel compared to stock.
Was thinking about slotted. Was on the highway on a cold rainy day long stretch without touching the brakes then had to go for the brakes fairly aggressively and they weren't there. Read that it was some sort of hydro planing thing that happens on big brakes. Thought slotted might help with that. Only happened a couple times. First time it happened thought I was going to end my car. Now I give the brakes a couple taps and they perform properly. Wondering if slotted would help. Even if it doesn't happen often only needs to surprise me one time. |

Ap-sub-003
I bought a used, unmarried COBB AccessPORT (AP-SUB-003) for my 2011 WRX sedan. The COBB site doesn't list power gains for this AP model for the WRX sedan (it does for the 2011 WRX wagon and STI sedan).
Anyone know what gains I would get with an OTS tune for an unmodified '11 WRX sedan with 91 octane? I can't tell *any* difference! |

The most popular option (providing you have a downpipe/exhaust - and of course, works best with COBB if using their OTS map) is to go Stage 2. This ups the boost respectively to nearly 1.5bar and you WILL feel a difference. Gains are subjective, but you should be able to use it to log and find out what your target boost etc is at. |

To clarify, Not to say you HAVE to go with COBB products, just that they will work best as their OTS maps are made for those products (and then the only variable will be your engine health etc). There are plenty of people who run other downpipes and CBEs with their setup and rock it just fine.
As always, a protune (COBB or otherwise) is actually going to give you near maximum gains for your hardware installed on car. There's a buncha shops that can help protune COBB, and we even have one local-ish. http://www.rocketrally.com/website/i...roducts_id=340 Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Dales/RR/or any other shop, just posting what I know. |

Haha, Rocket Rally isn't really "local" for us Albertans. Most of the Western Subaru Club guys from Edmonton go to a guy in Calgary (Airboy Tuning) for their pro tunes.

I'll wait for COBB to get back to me in a few months before I can get their turbo back that is pre-release. There has to be more than JB, right? |

I've found the V3 to be an exceptional improvement over the V2. As a self tuner it truly gives a greater ability to stay "in tune" with what your vehicle is doing and makes deciding what changes to make much simpler when you know what's happening that instant rather than trying to remember when reviewing logs. The new screen is incredible and the self dimming function is fantastic! The power button is another fantastic improvement over the V2. In addition, the fact it comes with the soft shell case, extra faceplate and dash mount makes it quite the complete package!

Late to this thread, and an EJ207 owner - are you guys telling me that I should screw fueling up 94 here and just go to Pt Roberts? Save money, better gas, and I have been a sucker for paying for stupid 94?

No you are not stupid, Chevron 94 is the way to go in my opinion. However with an OTS tune I've found that the timing maps are a little too abrupt and aggressive in some points so I always recommend using the 91 OTS maps if you aren't getting a custom tune or self tuning to gain the most benefit. If you can get good 93 from the US it is better than our 94 and could allow running the OTS 93/94 maps. Having said that, I have no idea what is available for gas in Pt. Roberts.

Cross drilled/slotted dimpled all seem to be msrketing visual show things. New pad tech doesnt need the same as what pads needed 20 years ago with gas build up.
Solid rotors and ferodo 2500 (club sport pads) on 3 different cars and ive never had cold performance issues. Like stated the more aggresive a pad the worse the cold will be but that only starts once you hit the track pads vs street track. Also brand dependant. So many factors. Your pads are fine. Id ditch the rotors for solid discs. Oem discs are plenty good. |

The hps pads are not very good. Low dust and noise but overall I dont like then very much. As fas as the cold performance goes, the HP+ is way better. Here is why...
As you can see the hps has very poor cold performance compared to "oem" and the HP+. I really like my hp+ pads but they are kinda noisy and produce huge amounts of dust. Totally worth it in my opinion. |

I like the HPS for street. My HP+ pads are really noisy when doing light braking around town. They like to be stomped on. Right now my brake setup (all from Dales of course) is DBA slotted rotors, braided brake lines and HPS pads. This setup is awesome in everyday driving and the addition of HP+ pads makes it quite capable for track use.

Great graph Zefy!
I certainly feel this on my own car which has slotted rotors, HPS pads and stainless lines. They are definitely a bit weak on the cold braking end of things and with the slotted rotors I find they cool down very quickly when on the freeway for extended periods of time with no braking especially in the colder weather. I find myself getting on the brakes gently a bit before my exit to get some heat back into them or they often feel like there is a complete lack of braking power altogether if I don't do that. This isn't too say that I don't like the pads, I just alter how I drive them. Jameson Smith Dale's Operations Manager [email protected] |
