Default new throw out bearing at 40k??

so turns out i need a new throw out bearing at 40k miles and subaru says they wont warranty it. i think 40k miles is quite low to have my throw out bearing going bad, is it normal for them to go bad at such low milage? i have seen threads on these forums of people getting the same problem warrantied. so am i in the wrong by wanting them to fix it under warranty or are they in the wrong for not doing so and i should take it to a different dealership?

Your warranty has expired and you want them to cover it? The reason it's gone out already is probably user error, not the TOB itself.

my powertrain warranty is still intact for 2 more years or 20k miles. as far as user error goes how would you burn out a throw out bearing daily driving your car, i have never dropped the clutch in this car.

Powertrain for warranty purposes refers to internally lubricated parts. The clutch is a wear item and only covered by the basic initial warranty.
Any cases you may have seen reported where clutch repairs were covered beyond the official warranty period would be individual "goodwill" decisions by the particular dealer and/or SOA. If you've been a regular customer at a dealer for service you might be able to work something out with them, but if you come in off the street with your hand out looking for an out-of-warranty repair don't expect it to happen.

this dealership ****ed me from day one selling me a wrecked car without informing me of it and then constantly denying me warranty service even though most of the problems i have had have been due to said wreck. they know me by name at this place and still have yet to fix **** for me. it is without a doubt the last time i buy a car from that **** stealership.

23k on mine when it went bad. I got a new clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing all under warranty. I don't know why you couldn't get it under the power train warranty.

This was already answered by Mulder above, I will expand upon his statement for clarity. Powertrain for warranty purposes (5yr/60k) refers to internally lubricated parts. The clutch (and related parts such as the throwout bearing) is a wear item and only covered by the basic initial warranty (3yr/36k). The OP is at 40k miles and is therefore past the 3yr/36k mile warranty on wear items.

Without any kind of extended warranty you are definitely on your own. Here's an idea though, since you are so pissed off and have been reportedly screwed several times: try another dealership. If you have been screwed several times, why continually give them the business? I have a stealership within 15 minutes of my house but I gladly drive well over an hour to go where I trust the people and have an excellent experience. Maybe it's time to move on...or is this one of those things where the kidnapped victim misses their kidnapper?

Dropping the clutch would be less damaging to it than say riding our slipping it.. all the time

My throw out bearing went at 15,000 miles and I got it replaced under warranty. I'd try another dealership if the one you're going to sucks.

Keep your foot off the clutch when driving. Even minimal pressure on the clutch pedal when not actually shifting kills the throw out bearing. A lot of ppl don't even realize this. It's not a Subaru problem it's a driver error problem.

Mine was replaced at 4K. GR WRX's have problems with squeaky clutch, and many times the dealer will drop the tranny and diagnose it as a faulty TOB, which in turn damaged pressure plate fingers. It was a Subaru problem for myself and a decent number of GR WRX owners.

I have never heard of this problem. Please don't be spreading fear just like people do regarding ringland issues.

You may wish to do a search for the squeaking clutch issue on this forum. I am not the only one.

My point is that some people having a squeaky clutch doesn't mean it's a common issue. Same with the ringland issues.

My point is that just because you never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I chose my words very carefully in my previous statement. Many people have the squeaky clutch and choose not to do anything about it, and their car is fine. Those who brought their car to the dealer and had the dealer check the clutch/TOB had their TOB and pressure plate replaced. Those are the facts.

So what was your point? You made the implication that it's a myth like the ringland issue. Sorry but my reading comprehension isn't very strong.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Ringland issues exist but are rare. However on these forums many act as if it is a terribly common issue afflicting lots of cars. I was just saying that while the squeaky clutch issues may exist they aren't very common.

I agree that the ringland issue is rare. However if you do a search on here/IWSTI/WRXforums/clubWRX/IWSTI, you'll see that many people has a squeaking clutch (i.e. making personal testaments to that case), making it a common condition. Whether they treat it as a problem is up to them, and often enough it doesn't have detrimental effects on their car. Those who did bring the car in to the dealer, the dealer was able to find the TOB and pressure plate damaged.

I think mykyle's point is that, while it is reported here because it's an enthusiasts site, it is probably rather isolated in the grand scheme of things...just like the ringlands. It seems like a huge problem since we talk about it here, but it is actually only afflicting a handful of cars when you compare it to the hundreds of thousands of Subarus that are problem-free.

I understand with mykyle's point, and agree with your explanation, but I'd like to argue that this is on a much bigger scale in terms of actual occurrence. The number of people who have ringland issues are probably numbered in the dozens, and the number of people who are have squeaky clutches, well, do a search to get a sense of the scale.

Edit:

Actually, how cold is it in Chicago right now? If it's under 40F, next time you get in your car in the morning just pump the clutch a dozen times and see if it squeaks (don't turn the engine on).

Look I can tell that both of you want me based on your spelling of my username and I just wanted to let you both know that I have plenty of love to go around.

But first I would like to make it clear that I like being little spoon and I hate onion chunks in my food.
