Myles has posted his review of the BRZ in General.
He said he was lead to believe there are some pillowball joints in the rear suspension. For the lazy: BRZ DRIVEN FULL REVIEW with pics of lowered BRZ - Myles Williams - Racecomp Engineering/GTWORX Last edited by Calamity Jesus; 03-29-2012 at 10:29 AM. |

I for one is very excited about this car and thankful for it to go into production though the mainstream demands more.
But this car is not for the mainstream, this is a poor man's Cayman, Elise... etc. The driving reviews so far are very positive. I can't wait to drive one. |

I sincerely hope so, and I hope it causes scion to go "oh ****" and reduce their price. Clearly the subaru (while uglier IMO) is better equipped, much more so than a measly $400.

Okay.. I'm a derp. I thought the FR-S's $24,930 price was before destination.. it isn't. So, the pricing difference is more like $1,100. Still, it's going to be a far better deal than the Scion (once you can start buying them under MSRP) unless Scion comes back with some heavy incentives.

$25.5k for the BRZ is a good deal considering the content. I'm not sure how well the FR-S will sell now.

That BRZ pricing is before the $750 destination charge.
And there will only be 6000 BRZs per year, after that people will have to go for the FR-S. |

I would wager they will make as many BRZ's as they can.

I hope that's true, but I'm betting Toyota will do what it can to make the FR-S the volume seller of the two.

Also, while a lot of people are quick to say that the BRZ comes with so much more for a rather small premium over the FR-S MSRP, my concern is that the pictures of the BRZ's interior that have come out (with the nicer HVAC controls) are usually for the BRZ Limited trim level, not the "standard" Premium. I haven't looked into it that much, but do both models of the BRZ have the exact same interior? I already know that the materials are different (I think the Premium has cloth while the Limited has something better, I think it was a suede/alcantara and leather combo) while the Premium has dual-climate control or something, so I'm curious if it has the same controls (but without dual-climate) or if its controls are similar to the FR-S's. |

Same HVAC controls on the BRZ Premium as the FR-S. Interior wise the Limited adds lighted vanity mirrors on the visors, heated seats, dual zone HVAC, push start, and the leather/Alcantara seats. Beyond that I think the differences in the interior between the two trims is nil.

^ Thanks for confirming. I was hoping the BRZ would have the nicer interior in even the standard trim, but oh well. I can still justify the price difference in my eyes.

If the silver is anything like my '05 Legacy... it will start to show wear disappointingly fast. If I were in the market for this car... I might actually prefer the Scion. (I don't care a whit about the reputation of the brand's customers, I care about the merits of the vehicle.) I think I like the Scion/Toyota angry fascia better, and have no wish for pre-installed pre-planned-obsolecense built-in NAV. Push start can probably be retro-fitted, but I would probably have an AWD car for winter use, and that one would have the heated seats. For a performance car... most of that Limited stuff can, and perhaps should probably be left for the other car in the garage. Maybe for the very, VERY few people who buy a BRZ as an only-car, would they want the full-boat options. Leather steering wheel, and leather/alcantara seats might be nice. The push-button keyless entry and start might be a nice convenience detail touch but not a deal breaker. Dual-zone climate control, similarly, a nice touch... but in a small cabin airspace, probably not a deal-breaker. Lighted vanity mirrors are hardly something to even think about. Fit one to the passenger side, if your girl REALLY wants one. If your girl is insecure about her looks, maybe NO mirror will help preserve her pleasant mood. Use a paper map, use your smart phone, stand-alone GPS, GSM+GPS iPad or other tablet, or better yet... let yourself get lost, and explore some roads to get back. Drive the car. The trunk might be a bit high in the driver's rear view, so a reverse camera might be a nice little thing to have... but there are rearview mirrors with rear camera screens inlaid inside them for that. Dash screen not needed. What it needs more than most of those limited options, is a nice set of staggered wheels and tires. Save the package price for that. While the aftermarket GPS navigation is a common alternative, a lot of states (such as California) ticket you for using a cell phone, whether talking, texting or navigating, so that may not be an idea option for everyone. While an in-dash navigation system is likely to become outdated, it's generally not a problem, unless you are constantly going to brand new locations, plus it's not like there are constantly new highways being constructed. |

I always thought built in nav was ridiculous but when I went to upgrade my stereo there was one on sale so I got it, and now I would never go back. The little 4" screen on a phone just doesn't hold a candle to a full 6-7" screen and it's so much easier to have it always there without having to set something up. I don't realize how much I use the map when driving until I get in a car that doesn't have it and keep looking at the radio out of habit. Plus the touchscreen is great for all the bluetooth menus and everything you have to deal with now, trying to do that with a 2 line display and 6 buttons gets old fast.
