Motion Lab Tuned: Juanmedina's 2007 WRX E85 ARMY
Facility: Motion Lab Tuning
Type of Dyno: Mustang Dyne AWD 500 Baseline # for a stocker at the dyno: 210whp Boost: 25psi -> 13 Fuel: E85 Target AFR: 12.0:1 SAE Corrections: Yes Peak HP at RPM: 392whp @ 5k RPMs Peak Torque at RPM: 506wtrq @ 3.6K RPMs Mods: 2.5L forged pistons, 9.0:1 CR, Ported Heads, BC 272 Cams, CAI, Turbo Inlet, Equal Length Header, Motion Lab 3-Port BCS Hard to believe folks - this WRX is a FREAK! After the first baseline pull I thought something was out of whack with the dyno. I went through everything twice to no avail. We did a second baseline pull with the same results. From there we unmarried the Cobb AP and began with a freshly built Motion Lab Tuning ROM for this car. After some tweaking on the MAF scaling we got started. We couldn't get any more boost out of the car than it came in with. The previous tune was too rich with too much igition timing. We were able to get some nice gains out of it with straight-forward tuning at the same boost levels as the baseline pulls. By motionlabtuning at 2010-03-28 For comparison, 2 examples of other tuned WRXs on the same dyno. By motionlabtuning at 2010-03-28 By motionlabtuning at 2010-03-28

lol, it already did before.
Juan, glad to see you get it tuned out again finally. but cam's tune didn't look too far off dyno curve to dyno curve especially for a remote tune. so go and tear down the track in between semesters |

not seeing how this is possible, especially on a mustang dyno
no hate, just never seen anything even withing 30whp, and not even close on a mustang dyno my STi on vp109(race gas with higher octane than e85) did 312/360 on gst's mustang dyno |

Even with the 9:1 cr and the E-85 i am on board with the 500 AWTQ being way out of the range of a VF39. Arguments aside as far as heat soak/efficiency range of the turbo I just think the turbo wouldn't have enough air to get the 500 AWTQ. I'd buy 450 AWTQ and that HP on E but this seems a bit high.

How much power does a stock STi puts down on that dyno?
Congrats! Now that's taking it to the max! With a good driver low 11's shouldn't be out of the question. |

Just to put it into perspective Carmi, regardless on how this dyno is reading Juan's car is making 340-345whp on the airboy (he texted me earlier today). Its a competitor for 118 traps on the vf for sure. |

Possible it was in 2wd mode like that Cobb tune that made so much hp on a WRX? They later found it was in 2wd mode for the run.

LOL dyno numbers are just numbers. IMO the numbers are off because my car is light, if I use stock weight numbers on my road dynos I get about the same power.
The car made gains everywhere from my old E-tuned camtuning map which was really good. I am REALLY impress with the Motion Lab 3-port EBC, I tough I was going to loose spool by switching my Hallman MBC but not, the spool is identical, it actually holds about .5psi more at redline. The car feels really smooth, and the cold starts are excellent. Last edited by juanmedina; 03-28-2010 at 06:17 PM. |

This makes no sence to me. 500 WTQ with a VF 39??? Thats WAY outsiude its efficancy range even with a built motor with 9:1 compression.
Why not use the AP? This car needs to do this on another Mustang dyno or Im calling BS. Like mentioned above, was the dyno in 4 wheel or 2 wheel and when was the last time it was serviced and calibrated? |

well....here are the numbers from the BASELINE pull from the original post.
same boost, same fuel.....and apparently "too much timing". I think the plots and curves speak for themselves. |

Im not here for any type of drama, but i do have a few comments.
I learned from Vaus (EQ Tuning) a while ago through a few PM's that breaking records takes tuning in real world conditions. This season, I will tweak my ROM every time I go out to the track, for specific conditions. A final number on a chasis dyno means nothing. The final power band, however, means everything. Juan's car may not have been tweaked on the street, hence the 30whp difference @ 6500 on the airboy plots. The numbers hit on the dyno are, in all honesty, wall art. Its what the car does on a straight away, in open air, that counts. I do not mean this in a negative way what so ever. But if anyone on here was to take this car to the track... Using real world data, you would have to go with the map that produced the most area under the curve (once again in real world conditions). It takes tweaking an "unstrapped" car in open air to do this. -Mikey |
