I like to eat ants.

Post Chamois, or just plain Sham?

So do you live by the rag, or have you sworn it off?

I recently got one, maybe I'm just not using it right, but I'm not impressed. Any tips for getting the car spot free?

Yep, I agree... I've been using the absorber since '95 with no problems. I use 2, a clean one for the paint, and a dirty one for cleaning the door sills and whatnot...

I use two synthetic shammies. One is perforated and one is nubbly. I find that they do a super job drying, absolutely streak free. And man, they can hold a helluva lot of water.

Alright. So what am I doing wrong?
I lay it flat on the surface and drag it off, usualy going slowly at a steady speed.

What's the trick down the sides of the car?

What's the prefered technique?

Thanks

Well, there really is no critical technique as far as I know. One important thing to remember with the synthetic, grippy type chamois is to soak it wet and wring out the rag before you use it. This will allow it to absorb more uniformly. Then I just wipe with light pressure in linear strokes.

After the wash, there's lots of water beaded up all over my car. I use the rag as a squeegee to push off most of the water first before I go back and do the careful drying with a wrung out chamois. I like to wipe all in one direction. And since the wipe is like 18x18", I fold it in quarters and wipe and unfold/refold to expose new surface until it doesn't pick up 100%. Then I wring out and start over.

What Cthulhu said...

My high school swimming team used them to dry off between runs, they must be good!

I use a 'Generic Chamois' that I bought for like $6 at autozone.

I wet it down, ring it out, then proceed to dry the car with it. Then after I am done I stick it in with the next load of laundry to be cleaned.

I buy a new one every 6 months to a year.
