Default Noob Question

my previous stick car was so damn old i can't compare to any modern day stick cars.
hence the newbie question.

every time shift from 4 to 5 , or 5 to 6, the RPM would rise about

700 rpm or so as i clutch in. i thought it might be that my foot

was still on the gas. but i tried to take my foot off the gas for

1/2-1 second before i clutch in.. it still does the rpm rising thing.

i usually shift @ 3500-4000 rpm (break in), but going from 4-5 the

engine revs a little more than 4000 rpm, it bothers me because

the shift up indicator will sound which scares me a tiny bit.

i thought this hike in rpm should happen in low gears rather than high gear, but i haven't noticed anything in the low gears..

Does it sound weird to you guys?

i asked my buddy who drives a 350 Z.

He said he never paid attention to that, but he tried it out as we were talking over the phone. He said the Z risese rpm as you clutch in in low gears, neutral to 1st, 1st to 2nd..

I have noticed something similar with mine, too. When I go to shift and push in clutch/let off gas, the car seems to maintain its RPMs for a couple seconds (sometimes it even rises by a couple hundred RPM). The only other vehicle I've ever seen do this my my dad's old Chevy truck, and that was because it had problems with the cruise control.

Huh.

do you know in what gear it does this?

seems like mine only does it in high gears

in lower gears, once i clutch in. the RPM drops instantly

I wonder if this could be Dive by Wire lag; or if it could be intentional so some people don't need to heel-toe and can granny shift. Maybe the ECU monitors to see if a person is not heel-toeing properly and then sets a granny shift mode on?? I would be interested in this answer as well.

not on high gear upshifts

i thought about it. thats why the low gear rpm rise makes more sense.

Could it be some kind of BOV delay? The surge from the turbo could be keeping the rpms up if this happens. Just a thought.

Maybe it's because all of a sudden you've release all this weight from the engine. Previously the engine is using a certain amount of air and fuel, as soon as you put in the clutch, you're still using that amount of a/f but pushing almost no weight so the engine actually speeds up for a second before the a/f is cut to bring the engine down to idle...

with my boring old wrx, when I shift with very little time off the gas the rpms go up a bit, but if I take my foot off the gas a bit earlier they drop right off the bat. I think (<---- complete idiot, do not listen) the turbo is still pushing some air in there, and when you disengage the drivetrain the rpms spike a wee bit....

Who knows, but that was my thinking....

It was annoying hwen braking in though because if you take it right to 4k rpms while accelerating it would always go up to like 4250 or 4300...
