Default Might be moving to Laconia NH

Hey fellow Subaru owners, I might be taking a job out in NH with a friend and was curious if I should drive my car out there or keep it garaged. Also how is it out there? I would be out in Laconia for 6/7 months (starting march 1) but still haven't found a place to live just yet. Not looking to go party or anything like that but would like some locals to give me the low down on certain areas to stay away from if any or some cool meets with chill ppl.

Oh and the drive would be 1950 miles, my motor has 10k miles on it since the complete build.

Thanks in advance.

It's sort of the ghetto of the lakes region. No place is horribly bad. Good snowmobiling in the winter and boating in the summer. Oh, mountain biking is good and Highland park is not far, if you're into that. Ski areas aren't far. There are several pawn shops in Laconia......if that tells you anything.

Plenty of great roads for weekend cruises in that part of the state. Might regret not having ur car out here if you decide to not bring it. Not going to find many meets in that part of the state. More in the southern areas like Manchester and the seacoast. Plenty of stuff to do if ur into outdoor activities. Mountain biking, hiking, the beach, etc.

And we aren't talking about any kind of city or anything. There might be some ****ty parts of town but nobody is going to try to carjack you. Just keep ur stuff locked.

The salt up there in the winter is brutal. If its been a southern car for a while, and want to keep it clean, I'd hate for it to see salt.

Thank you guys for the info. I would be leaving feb 27 to get there before march 1st. I really appreciate the good info. I would love to snowboard but never have, not sure how surfing relates to snowboarding but I love to surf so hopefully that can replace it for the mean time. I quit drinking so I would be looking forward to more "outdoor" activities. It's really good to know that there really isn't any "BAD" areas Because where I am not the crime rate is high. Not so much in my neighbor hood but in the town it's self.

If car meets aren't too too far then I'm sure I would make the drive just to have some fun and meet new ppl in the area.

The salt is what really really worries me but was wondering if 6/7 months of it could really do that much damage?

I work in Laconia. Don't spend much time here. Its a nice area though (Lakes Region) with alot to do year round if you are into outdoor activities.

Many co-workers live in an apartment complex on Blueberry Lane I think. It's "ok".

I'd say bring it, just don't drive it until april/may. You still have 4+ months of prefect driving weather after that. You'll regret not having it once it warms up and the roads are cleaned up.

Has not been a good snow year, I would expect most if not all salting to be done by April 1st. My fiance's family has a lake house in that area so I spend a decent amount of time up there, I can't imagine not having a car up there.

There is some surfing in New England, summer months are usually not the best swell but it might be worth while to bring your board, with a car you'll be able to hit spots from Maine to Rhode Island within a couple hours drive.

Aren't you coming from Winnipeg in Canada? Don't they salt up there too? I don't see what the problem is.

Either way, welcome to New England! Bring your car, plenty of awesome driving up in NH.

I live 20 minutes north. I got an exhaust ticket there in the STi, ironic because Laconia is the "Home of Bike Week" that makes your ears bleed in the summer.

That sounds great... I mean I am married an my wife would be staying here at home so I would need some things to keep me going though out the days that I'm off. Don't want to be a person that just sits on the couch while I'm out there. Know what I mean?

That's funny you say that because I would be working at Laconia Harley Davidson, if the money is right I'm going for those months I stated above.

That is really weird because my profile did state that I was on Houston Texas and a few other things. Weird how its not under my name anymore. Either way I wasn't offended in any way nor did I take your reply offensive.

It's white, and I don't mean the snow.

Wikipedia
Laconia = 97% white
Houston = 49% white
