Default How do I remove glass from '12 STi fogs?

I want to take out that stupid bulb blocker thing that's in my fog lights that looks to be held in by one screw on the inside of the glass. It's that hexagonal shape that just sits in the middle of the glass but it blocks almost all of the light now that I upgraded to led bulbs.

I tried to take out off the glass by baking it in the oven like one would do headlamps. 25 minutes @ 200F and the damn things still would not come off! They're definitely glass, as it says on the side too, lol. Any tips on removing this? It looks to be extremely in there...

Not sure about the new ones, but the old ones are glass and were glued shut like tail lights. There was no real way to take them apart because unlike the plastic tail lights, you can't dremel them.

Did it myself. I believe i set it to 240 for about 20 min and pried it open with a flat head.

Can you take a picture of your fogs?

No im not a "kiddie." If you look at how the fog lens housing is constructed, the hexagonal piece im talking about literally blocks more than half the bulb. It actually made led fog bulbs i put in dimmer than the stock halogens

1. remove from front bumper
2. get a heat gun
3. heat around the edge of the lenses carefully so you do not melt them
4. take a flat head screw driver and lightly pry them open
5. do whatever you need to do...
6. either re-heat them an seal them back up or get some silicone sealant and attempt to re seal them

---

Uncle Scotty is right.. your going to blind the hell out of everyone with them...

I would personally just put HIDS in them an use it for OFF ROAD purposes.. HID fogs will be extremely bright and nearly every passing car will flash lights at you... if thats what your going for :-s

you don't need to remove the front bumper when you can take out the lens assembly from underneath.

i have stated more than twice that they are LED bulbs. do none of you read? thank you for the others who have actually helped. some of you others have your panties in a twist.

Doubt you'll be able to get a water tight seal after removing the lenses

The irony is strong in this post. He didn't say to remove the front bumper.

Do you not read?

Oh, and tossing insults around is a sure fire way to get the help you so desperately seek. Keep up the good work. God bless.

I thought about the LED route, post some pics (at night of course) after you get this done. Actually a before and after would be great. I'm curious and honestly don't have a lot of faith in the LED's being very effective.

:-/ super funny.

Oh an your welcome for the help :-| .
I recommend reading your users manual in the glove box prior to driving your car, with the knowledge and understanding skills you have displayed I would not be surprised if you didn't launch it out of the dealers lot.

Led bulbs are not as bright as your factory fog bulbs. I'm going to say that again due to the miscommunication in the previous posts. I feel you may need to read things more then once to understand. Led bulbs will be useless if you ever do come in contact with fog...You will be lost. You will have the Lexus look but it will be useless.
So once again... LED FOG LIGHT BULBS ARE A NO GO. LEAVE YOUR HOUSING IN TACT IN YOUR FOG LIGHTS. FOG LIGHT HOUSINGS ALLOW THE LIGHT TO HAVE THE CORRECT OUTPUT AND SHINE THE CORRECT DIRECTION.

I recommend selling the car asap and buy a old civic hatch.

I highly agree.

Many people may not take it into consideration but altering your stock light housing can have serious effects on others.
I myself have "blond" eyes as the doctors refer to it. If you have light pigment in your eyes you will/may have a higher sensitivity to light. I have to have 5% window tint all the way around my windows. My daily driver as well has 35% tint on the whole front windshield to be able to drive successfully at night. I wish idiots would stop editing their housings and fixtures.

I understand why people show so much road rage when they see sports cars... its a shame...

Fog lights are not made so that you can see further down the road.... THATS HIGH BEAM. Fog lights are designed to help you out in harsh weather conditions so you can see the road lines better infront of your vehicle.

I don't think the cap "blocks" the light so much as it just redirects it. It would really suck to have that car be in oncoming traffic and look straight at the bulbs.

Exactly.

When the OP removes that light diverter in the fog lamp, it's not a fog lamp anymore...it's now more like an off-road driving lamp.

Does this statement hold true for projectors as well? I can see where this would make sense with the OP's lights since they are just reflector housings.

I also can see that if you buy $5-$10 chinese LED lights why they would be ineffective as any type of driving light, but what about the "high end" bulbs?
