Default Opinions on 2011 Kia Sorento

Really thinking about getting one of these.

Anybody have any experience with one?

i had to drive a previous model sorrento for a few days and was impressed (other than the lack of steering feedback). tight turning radius, decent brakes, comfy seats, solid interior. nothing special but for the money you could probably do much worse. i mentioned that to a shop manager who works at a subaru/kia dealer and the first thing out of his mouth was "kias come back for more warranty work than any other car i've ever dealt with." hopefully they've ironed out a few kinks since then.

I've had a friend at a Hyundai dealership tell me the same exact thing...

The feedback from people I've known who have Kias is that yes they have a super warranty (10 years I think), but they need it. Plus as great as it is to have a 10 year warranty, if it is constantly needing work, that gets old fast. The inconvenience alone of having to take your car there, get a loaner, pick up your car, etc is just not something you want to deal with.

This new Sorento looks 10x better than the old one for sure.

Not sure about this particular Kia but I was looking at some and they seemed to fall short on safety ratings.

Good that they've completely given up on original ideas and just stealing ideas from Vauxhall.

The new Sorento is on my short list for my next car purchase, which must sadly bow to the needs of family life. On paper it seems ideal. I do have concerns over the warranty issue. There are several reports of major frustrations in dealing with Kia on warranty coverage. Apparently they're VERY stringent about sticking to their strict maintenance schedule, which essentially involves some form of service about every 4000 miles. This is particularly an issue, because I just found out my nearest Kia dealer is in Hilo, which is 2 1/2 hours drive away. That in itself might kill it for me.

I'm less concerned over quality issues, as I've watched Kia and its sister company Hyundai make HUGE strides in quality over the last few years. Therefore I take reliability reports with a grain of salt.

I very much like the looks of the car. It looks like where Acura's styling direction should have gone. I hear reports of sub-par interior materials, but I've never been a dash stroker, so I don't care. All the reviews I've seen say the fitment is good, and I'm much more concerned about that than how the material feels.

I like that a third row is available, and is apparently usable by adults for short journeys. This gives it a lot of flexibility, which I feel I need.

I like the full time AWD system, which has a locking center diff, and also hill descent and ascent assist to go along with stability and traction control.

I like the V6, which not only gets 276 hp, but also 25 mpg hwy with AWD. Impressive.

I like the price, which is about $32k MSRP loaded how I want it. And let's get real. It's still a Kia, so I won't be happy unless I get it for about $28k. Obviously resale won't be very good, but I plan to run it into the ground, so no issues there (hopefully).

Right now the only car on the list is the Toyota RAV-4, but the Kia has several advantages over it.

I have been beating on two different kia rio's for the past two months.

Honestly I dont really hate driving it other than the fact it has no cruise.

The first one had minimal trans slip from P - D when it was really really cold. I was hopeing on trading it in to get something else but i got another Rio.

It is quiet, brakes ok, has ok acceleration, drives ok, just does everything a cheap commuter car needs to.

The new Sportage is a bit smaller, i think, and it looks almost the same as the Sorento.

My mother just traded in her less then 1 year old kia borrego because it was such a piece of crap. Already had electrical problems, horrible ride and a bunch of other stuff. I told her not to buy it, but she didn't listen. Luckily she got a great deal on her trade in, and STOLE a demo 2009 hyundai Santa Fe.

it is the same chassis as the current santafe. all in all a pretty nice car to drive but the interior is pretty plasticy. i work for a hyundai dealer and can honestly say that if you can live with a few things being a little less nice than the sorento it is a good car to lease. the sf's interior is much nicer.

1:do not buy a kia, lease one. wait for the promos/deals it can save you up to 200+ a month. they depreciate so quickly you will be upside down in your loan in 3 months.

2:shop around. the sorento has more options at a cheaper entry price than other cars but it does lack in a few departments. wind noise and trim quality are the 2 biggest ones i noticed on my drive.

Depreciation isn't something I was really taking into consideration, as I was thinking of it as a long term purchase, but it's a good point. If nothing else, Kia has a history of providing big rebates, so I'll definitely wait for that if nothing else. I didn't care for the ride in the Santa Fe. Too floaty.

I like the styling, but the quality is suspect.
