Unhappy Just one more thing to make it right!!!

Ok so I had made a couple of post and will bring everyone up to speed so there is no confusion.

First I had put a post on my car and the sound it makes when its has been sitting or is cold. The sound is only when it is idle or below 2,500 rpms. Sounds like a bad exhaust.

2nd post was about the coilpack not working. Well this morning i was on my way to get that fixed when my car just went dead. So I called up subaru road hotline and they gave me a free ride to the dealership They replaced the parts that needed to get fixed. And as luck would have it told me that it was under warrenty. Well even tho i have 53K miles i'm not going to say no its not let me pay for it.

Now for the part I need help with. And i do very much so. The dealership said that problem with the sound is comming from my timing belt and tenson rod. They said the tenson rod was bent and I needed a new timing belt. I would be very happy to go along with this other then the fact it is going to be about $600 for the job. I made an app. with an other dealership Natick Subaru in Natick :-P

I need help cause are they aright or just trying to get my MONEY $$$ ??? Does that make sense. Again I have no idea when it comes to things like this. It drives fine. It only happens when its cold or has been sitting a long time and under 2,500 rpms.

Now an other thing is I am going on a trip to NY which is a couple 100 miles so as of right now I have an app. on Thur. Please help and let me know if they are right and I need to get this correted right away or they are raping me in my A**

You guys are the best. You were right on about the coilpack. Hope to hear from you soon. Looking forward to meet some of you at the next meet sometime

Recommendation is normally to replace a timing belt at 60k miles. So its a good idea even if that is not the problem. The sound COULD be comming from the tensioner. Stick your head under the hood and see if you can pinpoint the source of the sound.

You actually replace the belt on the 2.5 SOHC motor at 105k. Your problem is likely the tensioner .

Could a problem with the tensioner have damaged his timing belt?

The tensioner rides against the opposite face of the belt from the crank and cam pullies- usually all that happens is the timing marks wear off . Timing belts are cheap enough that it can be a "might as well" type of thing while you're in there, but it's not likely to be an "absolutely necessary" type of thing.

So you think that is what is causeing the sound? And you think they are right in replaceing the belt? From what your saying I guess if it is bent then the belt might be worn. Thanks

Also it does sound like it is comming from there. I guess i'll just get that fixed and replace the belt just to be safe anyways. Thanks for the help. :-D
