I just bought a car in CT does anyone know how to get a temp. out of state plate and reg. so I could drive it home instead of towing it?

Check with both your home state and CT departments of motor vehicles -- they are the ones who know the rules. When I bought a car in OR, I took the title & bill of sale back to WA and got it registered w/WA plates in about an hour. Took the WA plates down to the car and drove it back all legal-like.

I have sold two cars to people who live out of state and know for a fact that MD will not issue temp tags to non-residents. They brought their own plates, and I did not ask where they got them from. Don't know about CT.

Does your home State permit you to transfer tags from one vehicle to the other? If so, just bring your current tags along and throw them on the new car to get you home. Just make sure that you have it insured before driving it anywhere.

I flew up to detroit to buy a car and drove it back to kansas city with no tag and got pulled over once in iowa and the cop didn't say anything about it after I showed that I had a bill of sale and title etc.
