STi Engine Swap into early year Impreza
I geard Garage Tuning can do this swap, but I guess the main reason I'm posting this is that I'm very new to Subi's and their engines. I am definetely aiming for an engine swapped car for my summer project and I am either highly considering a Nissan 240SX hatch with a 1JZ from a MK3 Supra or an early year Subi with STi engine. Guess I'm wondering about what my STi engine swap options are. I hear of this Type 1,2,3 and what not...jdm versus usdm...not really sure what to go with. I plan to make some high power and make the car a dedicated track car worthy of such.

If it's a STi Engine into a GC body your looking at ...it's not a totally uncommon swap... The differnt versions of engines most commonly swapped in are Ver.6, Ver.7 and the pin-ultimate swap the USDM 2.5L STi motor ... You may want to read around the 'Subaru Converison' Forum a bit ... To get a better idea of the steps involved in the swap.

there's very little exterior difference between subaru engines. they are for the most part interchangeable. if you do a search you should be able to find out about the different types. just to start you out, the ej-20 is the 2 liter, ej-25 is the 2.5, and ej-257 is the usdm 2.5 motor.

Thanks for the reply guys. The 'Conversion' forums and the associated FAQ's answered a majority of my questions . I guess what I'm wondering is the potenntial of the EJ20 versus the STi's EJ25. I also hear the longblock on the JDM engines are built to withstand more torture than a comparible USDM so in the long run, it might be worth it more to sacrafice the 30HP with the JDM STi to save a bit of money. Any truth to any of this?

Good luck trying to wire a 96+ motor into a pre95 car! You would have to convert from obd1-2. Stick to a swap that is closest to your year so wiring wont be as bad. |

That's true, but if you're going to go the JDM route, they don't use an EGR system so it makes it much easier to install. One less thing to put in. Just have to smog it under the table.

....EGR isn't an issue....it is all the wiring needed to the harnesses to make it all work properly....there are pics of spaghetti around......and like posted above.....an 95+ with a 95+ motor is easiest..... |

Okay I get it. The previous guy made it seem that the problem was in the differences between OBD systems.
