Try this.

I think it's pretty slick. And cheap. Going to try it over the winter. Maybe this weekend.

And congrats on the new ride, dude. I kinda like the new color.
There is a decent write-up somewhere around here or on 3gwrx.com about how to do the IKEA mudflaps. You can probably just earch for "IKEA" and yuo'll find the thread.

if interested I can put together a DIY of the mud flaps in a week or two.
Ive got a little more work to do like get a roof basket and rims/tires and an off roading survival kit like shackles tow straps and one of those multi purpose shovels before the 48hrs of tristate trip in january.
the only complaint I have is that the light bar rattles and you can notice it at night with the lights on...ill be laid off in a few weeks ill have to throw it on the lift and see about making it a little more solid.
Nice set up! I wish I could rock the lightbar on mine, but I'm mostly a city driver and with teh amount of parallel parking I do (or is done around me by others) I'm too worried about having somthing that sticks out in front of the car below bumper level.

How do you feel the lift has effected body roll? I thought that the car rolled quite a bit in the stock set up, so I'm wondering if lifting the center of gravity made it roll even more. Rallitek's sway bars helped a lot with the roll btw, I highly recommend them.

Also, can you still get the black interior on the black/grey OBD for 2011, or is it tan only now?

it rolls a little more but not enough for me to panic...i used to have a jeep liberty so after all the roll in that i hardly notice it now. thanks for the sway bar idea ill look into them and as far as the interior im not sure what the options are now mine was on the lot and had tan so

I believe black interior is no longer available on the black OBS. Which is a little upsetting. I really wish Subaru offered interior trim options. But it seems like most car manufacturers aren't offering interior color choices these days.

I've got the 2011 OBS. maybe I'm just color blind, but the interior seems more like a cream to me, not tan. In any case, I agree that a choice would've been cool. I like my interior, but with two kids and a wife that doesn't care and has been driving it a lot lately, black probably would've been the smarter choice.

Getting the red vinyl overlays for the tail lights and 35/20% tint. Winter tires then pretty much good for now. How about you?

I have a Yakima Frontloader sitting under the Christmas tree. Kind of need it now, but the wifey won't let me unwrap it. Also would like to add sway bars to the rear and probably the front as well. Window tint and red tails would be nice too. If I have some money after that, probably a set of Rally Armor mud flaps and lightweight crank pully. I don't have snow where I live, but next winter, I'm hopeing to be in a snowy environment, so snow tires when needed.

I took my *crossbars off until I need them which is when I learn to snowboard or camping season starts. Car also looks great without them. Which RAs are you going for?

Default NewPort Blue/Marine Blue + black wheels

Hey everyone, does anyone with the newport blue/or 11+ marine blue models with wheels that are a different color than silver? I am looking into picking up a 2nd set of wheels for winter and was thinking of going the cheap route and getting black steel rims, wasn't too sure how it would look with our blue/silver combo color already on our cars. Anyways, any pics would be awesome. Thanks

I just purchased the same car / color combo and have plans for a rear sway and tint.... picking the car up this weekend. In the second picture the rear hatch trim looks to be the same color as the car. If I recall, the OBS in the showroom had this piece in chrome. Did you repaint it or purchase a spare part from the dealer?

I believe the chrome door was one of the changes for the '11. That may have been last year's model you were looking at.

Default Seeking some advice!!

Hello all,

I ve been doing a lot research on a car that I want to purchase. Since I live in NY and its winter out, I decided to go with subaru. I also wanted reliability and excellent drivers experience. I went from deciding to get an 07 Impreza 2.5i (test drove it and loved the way it hugs the road but hated the road noise) to 08 OBS, now i am pretty much settled with 11 OBS.

I'd really appreciate if you could help me out with some options I would like to include (it will be my first time buying a car from a dealer)
  • Pop-up arm rest and Auto-dimming mirror (def getting these)
  • Remote Engine Start (is it really worth the price/how well it works?)
  • Security System Shock Sensor System (also worth the price?)
  • Subwoofer/amp (quality???)
  • Bumper/hood protectors
  • Wheel Locks (worth the price?)
  • Cargo tray
Also I know the paint issues. Since I don't have a garage, is there a way to protect the paint - maybe some solutions or front end cover??

I am also torn between blue and the silver color exteriors, which one holds the color better? I believe that the sound system/speakers were upgraded for 2011 - any differences/improvements from their commonly agreed below average sound system reputation

Thanks for the replies ahead and some sweet pictures/cars I see in the posts! I just can't wait to get the car.

I have the 08 OBS, bought new in 05/2009. The dimming mirror and arm-rest options were included in my car, and are worth it. The dealer threw in the wheel locks as part of the deal, the wheels are good and the locks @$21 are worth it. However, the locks stick out a bit further than the other lugs; I believe Subaru updated the P/N for the OBS later, so look into this also. The cargo tray is (or was) standard on the 08 OBS.

On my 2011 OBS, the cargo tray was a standard option. The dealer had an OBS with the pop-up arm rest in the showroom, but I didn't care for it as I felt it was too flimsy. Maybe it was just the display unit, but it didn't feel very secure.

From what I've read in this forum as well as on others, the sub under the seat is a hit or miss based on what the owner is looking for in a sub. It's not one of those subs that pumps a ton of bass, but they say it definitely adds to the dimension of the music. Subaru is coming out with a new 10" Kicker sub in January, so I would hold off on the under the seat one until the new one is available.

Info from D0WNxSH1FT's post on www.iwsti.com...

New 10" Kicker Trunk Subwoofer - Available Jan 2011
H6030SFG300 - Sedan w/o Navi
H6030SFG400 - Sedan w/ Navi
H6030SFG100 - Hatch w/o Navi
H6030SFG200 - Hatch w/ Navi

Picture and info I believe is on page 4 on the pdf below:

http://www.sube.net/pdfs/2011imprezaaccy.pdf

For $23 the wheel locks should be a no brainer.

Which Bumper/hood protectors are you speaking of?

If imagine the lighter color, the better. This may be true for any type of paint really. My former car was silver (00 Hyundai Accent) and I never worried about the paint. My 11 OBS is black/gray... every little imperfection shows up quite markedly. Don't recall how dark the blue you're referring to is, but if you're concerned with things like swirl marks, lighter is better.
