Default Has this happened to anyone else?

I got pulled over on my way home tonight, and as he's done running my plate And info, he comes back an says

"your plates don't come up as anything."

Meaning, my vin number, my inspection sticker, my license number, and my registration all match to my plate and all info is correct... But the plates don't exist somehow?

And as an added kicker, my car year (2008) comes up as a 1940 automobile... I'm going to the registry Monday, but this is ****ing nuts.

Needless to say, I was let go, no ticket or anything just 2 confused cops and 1 puzzled wrx owner.

Anyone have anything similar happen to them?

I had a situation a long time ago. Got pulled over and all my info was up to date and legal however, both cops had guns drawn on me. My tags came up as a stolen vehicle. Needless to say, I got let go and went to the DMV who had somehow had my plate mixed with another individual. This was years ago when I lived in Florida.

Sometimes the CJIS system messes up or shows incomplete information. I've never seen it mess up this badly, and it mostly shows incomplete info for different states. Maybe when selecting plate type he searched apportioned, or commercial, instead of passenger.

I was detained at DMV in CT when I was a kid for trying to register a car that had been reported stolen. I had no idea what was going on (I was registering it for my Dad), but got much more concerned when the cops showed up and started asking me odd questions. Ever since I've had a poor relationship with DMV/RMV. :|

I went to the DMV one time and before I could park my car, I saw a student drive back into another park car. Needless to say, she didn't get her permit that day.

sort of, had to get new plates when I bought my 2012 WRX, still had my first car attached to them (96 corolla,) which was odd because I had had an 05 tC on those plates for 3.5 years...

on my 2013 subbie,
ny dmv, refused to give me the car until I had all my paperwork changed to match their system 4 hrs later I had temp plates to drive home.

NJ DMV
dmv messed up on everything for my car so had to
chuck all the paperwork and start all over again. pink slip and all.

I am driving a week ago, yep sirens, get pulled over I thought it was for the tints nope sorry sir your car is not allowed on the street because no inspection stickers. DMV never gave me the paper work or sent me the sticker why you ask, because they said it was not needed since I transfered plates. The cop disagreed, the next day I had to go to dmv, have my car reinspected and then get the goddamn sticker. cop let me off once I gave him my paperwork and he saw I was insured.

dmv: monkeys run that place

What an interesting comment. Would read again.

I've never had anything that bad happen to my. Although I did own a silver 03 wrx for about 2 weeks, and had insane amounts of trouble registering at the DMV. Long story short, waited in line at the DMV, lady told me I needed a copy of the PO's license because the title wasn't signed right. Got it done, went back to the DMV again, and they told me I needed a whole different list of documents. It was a mess.

OP - I had a friend of mine that this happened to a couple of monts ago. He got stopped because when the plates were ran, the officer's database said they matched some old truck. Once all the paperwork was shown however, the officer understood it was a glitch in the system and let him go with no issues. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Right, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a database error.

Whats your car's VIN? Only half of the VIN is the serial number..the first half is an identifier..it cant possibly identify both a 1940s truck and a 2008 WRX

The plate on my Celica in high school was one digit off from the license number on the registration. If you ran the registration everything came up normally, but the number on the plate came up as nothing. I had a cop notice it when he pulled me over, but assumed it was a typo and didn't do anything about it. However, until the car got new plates after being off the road, I never got parking tickets...

Are you sure you have a legit VIN and not a VIN swapped with somebody's Jeep?

Friend got pulled over for driving like a d-bag, they towed and impounded his vehicle because they said the registration was expired. He had paid the renewal fee and received the sticker but they never updated it in the system. Had to go to the DMV with the canceled check to prove that he had paid and then get his car out.

Not sure how long it took to get the charges off of his driving record.
