Autostarts/alarms for 5 speeds
It appears that there isn't much choice for people who want an autostart for a 5 speed. CompuStar and one other company in town that do them.
Recommendations anyone? Kris, I am happy with the CompuStar (it sometimes has problems, and I find that removing the battery for about 20-30 seconds fixes them.)

I would also like to know where/who's to get. I tried the place Subaru uses, they say they can't do 5spds. and they referreed me to the perfectionist.

I only take my car to Perfectionist for installations. I had the Compustar in my Honda before. No problems except for some falsings sometimes. I also only have one installer put it in for me also and his installs in my old Honda and my girlfriend's RS have been top notch.

I have only had a few problems. The minor things are the range sometimes and the paging I get in the middle of the night on the 2-way. The status of the car on the remote shows that someone is touching the car to trigger the warn away. I have ran to window ready to "cap some fools" but there was no one there. This happens once in a while that you least expect but to me this is minor. It keeps you on your toes.

I thought 2-way paging was already an option?
We have installed a two way systems in 5spds specifically Kris' Honda Civic and others. The only problem we have with installing them is the liability of operator error or a possible malfunction. With autostarts in a manual transmission, you always run the risk of an incorrect shutdown sequence. Most autostarts in manual transmissions vehicles, have a specific shutdown sequence to prevent arming the system in the event that the driver placed the car in gear when shutting down. We carry the Aladdin two-way system but are leary of installing them in anyones car that we don't know or trust. |

The problem I had was an unresponsive remote. Sometimes we could not disarm the alarm, and found that the only way to get the remote to work was to take the battery out, wait about 20 seconds, put it back in and....voila! The battery is good, though, so that is not the problem. Other than that, I don't think we have had any other problems.
What's wrong with the Alladin systems? |

The Aladdin systems are great. Most autostart installers here in town do not want to deal with the safety liability. Winslow

Compustar is the only one!
Kappafool, try turning off the shock sensor? I have this problem at work too and it's usually just some big truck driving by. Does anyone know if the sensitivity can be turned down? This might fix it too. Last edited by AutoXr; 01-24-2002 at 11:38 PM. |

Aladdin
Simon,
I carry the Aladdin autostart, but have not done a Subaru yet. Me and Winslow put one in my Honda, and I put one in a CRV, but since I am not too fast they take me the whole day, and sometimes the next morning. If I could get a " for sure" wiring diagram for a Subaru, and someone who was willing to bring a Suby and work with me on it, I would sell it for a greatly reduced price. I will ONLY sell them to friends and acquantinces though, due to the liability that Winlsow mentioned before. If anyone knows of any GOOD auto-start/alarm installers that are looking for some work on the side, let me know. I could help them make alot of money. I will show you the Aladdin when you stop by tonight. Kris |
