I'm in the same boat. I have a set of Blazer fogs at home but never got around to installing them since the headlight retrofit took so much time. I did take apart my foglight assembly to see if i could retrofit the blazer fogs into their to keep the same mounting locations but it would require a lot of cutting and moddifying the fog housing. Maybe I can pick up some used ones off here and work on it on the side. Would love to have the better fogs but who knows how much work it will take.

Sorry to bump a fairly old thread but am i right to assume that if I just stop after connecting the red/green wire to the orange the fog lights will still work independently and the light just won't come on?

My foglight buttons light doesn't work anyways so there is no reason for me to go that far into it if i don't have to

After completing this my fog lights will now stay on without my headlights but they shut off when my brights are on? Could this be because I have done the DRL delete mod?

What could I have possibly done wrong? I guess it could be because I stopped after connecting the Red/Green wire to the orange one and did not go any further as I don't care about the illumination because it doesn't work on my button anyways. Otherwise I just connected a wire to red/green and ran it to orange.

Edit: I did have to cut the orange wire because T-Taps weren't working. But I soldered everything back together properly and used heat shrink so they are all still connected. It has to be something to do with the second portion of the mod (illumination)

w0w...just saw this...again...

I have been so jammed up with my job...ive had about 6 days off, total, since xmas eve.

I have not DONE the Hella 90's....nhluhr did it to his 06 sti and posted it all up here and on iwsti

it 'LOOKS' all pretty stock when done....but ya get lights that actually DO something

and if you have an 06-07 impreza and have any hesitation on doing the 65w Osram Rallye H7 lows and Phillips 9011 HIR high beams.....

just DO IT......jesus...it is just incredible how much light the combination throws.....worth every penny.

hell....id pay DOUBLE if i had to, after using them for a while now

So this is the strangest thing ever. As my previous post said I didn't do the portion of the mod to make my indicator light work as I didn't care. However, my fogs weren't working with the high beams but were otherwise independent. So today I get in the car and all of a sudden the indicator light is working and the fogs are now working with the high beams. I literally didn't touch anything so I have no idea how this is even possible. My car may be possessed.

I always wanted to do this to my 2012 sports premium impreza fogs. I wonder if there will be a write up on it later.

Edit: Mine were working until I flashed my brights on and the fuse blew. Now my DRL's wont turn on. I replaced the 20amp fuse and then I accidentally flashed my brights on again while driving the other night and it blew again. Any suggestions?

Did you just tap into the Red wire w/ green stripe?

I saw this in the other thread:

When the car is running, with the headlamps off, there is power being fed to them. Subaru uses a switched ground system to control the headlamps.

Although off, there is power running through this circuit (red wire with green stripe) and it feeds the fog-lamp relay and switch. The relay so you can of course turn the lamps on and the switch so that when its turned on, the little green indicator lamp illuminates.

If for any reason you simply tap into the red wire with the green stripe and not fully disengage it from the relay (whether unlock or cut) you will effectively feed power backwards into the headlamp system, which will cause problems such as blowing fuses.
So you're NOT supposed to just tap into it... you're supposed to snip it (as stated in this thread) or disable it.

Also thinking about doing this to my car this weekend.. time permitting

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I, too, have the blazer hid fogs and wanted this ability so I wouldn't have to power them down when switching my highs on & off. It's a longevity issue.

Thanks for an awesome diy! The other writeups for this all have drawbacks but I see none to this one. Thanks again.

Finally decided to tackle this today. It worked! Sort of. When I turn on my parking light switch the HVAC lights and clock flicker. Interesting.

And the light on the fog light switch doesn't work. I used the wire clamps to connect into the other wires. I did not strip the plastic off the new wire.

Any ideas what might have happened?

i followed the instructions exactly but my foglights are not independent, they require the parking lights to be on. other than that everything works. is there any way for me to now get the foglights to run by themselves, without any other exterior lighting?
i have a 2006 2.5i
thanks
