for the usage you are talking about, the stock rods shouldn't have an issue. You aren't living at high rpms, so much as visiting the edge of 8k if needed.
That video was sweet!! wish they had plugged the head's oil feed though, so they could have flogged it to failure. Making the oil slick was also a definate dickhead move though. |

Ever seen a high revving glow engine, these things go in excess of 50,000 rpm's. Not quite the same when your talking about something that displaces a few cc and is a simple 2 stroke, but they are still increadible and can put out around 1 hp per cc. Thats the same power/volume of a top fuel dragster, but this is naturally aspirated, runs on fuel that is about 5-25% nitro instead of 90%, and doesn't need to be rebuilt every time you play with it!

Our EJ25D has seen it's way to 8125 on many occassions, but it's never there longer than 1 whole second. It's still running stock RS valve springs and bottom end. So for short bursts up there and beyond, I think the plan is solid as is. Tracking it, is different, where g loads are generated much longer, effecting the oiling.

Yeah, I know.......but rules are rules. That's why I keep (well, kept) a supply of "spares" just in case. Turns "disaster" into an "inconvenience". If we ever decide to prep that car for Targa, it'll be one of the first things addressed......
Jay PS: Micah, this is the same car I brought to the subie challenge in Richmond....way-way back when. |

The bottom line is no one here can tell you if its going to last. I've hit 8000rpms on a bone stock 2.0 that I didn't care about a bunch of times.

This is achieved by using: a nitrided, cross-drilled crank, blueprinted + balanced engine assembly, big-port heads, aggressive cams + ECU remap I'm sure there are other tricks up STi's sleeve for the Spec C's + Type RA-R's, but that's basically what the differences are GW Japanparts.com * Since 1996 * Last edited by japanparts; 03-27-2009 at 12:28 AM. |
