For an older 5MT, I've come to the conclusion that this is 'normal'. Some make the sound, some don't. I've had a 50k 5MT in my WRX make the noise before and after a dealer rebuild under warranty (rebuilt for a different reason), as well as multiple high mile ones in my Legacy. A friend's LGT is whisper quiet, but has a bad 3rd gear synchro go figure.

The current one in my LGT sounds like it has rocks in it when in gear w/ wheels off the ground and grinds on decel like you describe, and I've been stomping on it for 20k miles with no change for the worse.

Keep an eye on it but I think you're likely fine.

You also need to state your car, trans type, when the clutch was done, clutch type, age of clutch in miles, car mileage.

My 2011 WRX did this when I first got it. Sounds like typical transmission cronch but quieter. And only on decel with a load. Only did it when the car was good and hot, like driving around for 1hr+. I know nothing about my clutch other than that it's not factory and kind of stiff. Previous owner also put a short-throw shifter in it.

I was thinking it was the center diff starting to fail, but it just stopped doing it altogether one day.
