So were in agreement then that short rams are "ok"? Because from reading all this it seems that CAI are bad, but I dont see much about short rams other than the fact that they dont do much except add the cool noise Because from my reading it looks like the gains level out with the losses?

If by we you mean you and the mouse in your pocket, then yes. If you mean we as in most NASIOC viewers, then no.

I'm not great, I just know how to research. All Intakes suck butt, especially so for the WRX. So shorty, cold air, OMFGBBQ intake, or whatever.....all suck butt. By suck butt I mean they skew your A/F ratio, generate +0HP, or decrease the filtration so that your motor injects more dirt, or any combination of the three.

You'd need engine management and a tune. Any HP gains you got would be a result of the tune, not the intake though. An intake will net you +0HP....a tune alone can net 20ish HP on a 100% stock car.

so when you say "The only manufacturers of intakes that claim in writing not to cause any ill effects are:...SPT...", are you saying you don't agree with them? Above you say all intakes suck butt. I have an SPT intake and I agree it doesn't increase HP. I bought it for the noise. But do you think this Subaru manufactured part is worse than stock, assuming there's no EM?

If you believe SPT, then believe. If you don't believe, don't believe. All I do is post information, the choice is yours.

I want to believe (i really hope) that Subaru wouldn't make an intake that would affect the A/F ratio, causing engine to run a lot leaner or richer than stock. I have EM so i can make a couple adjustments, I guess.

nice
most informative. I just got an spt intake for my '06 outback xt and I'm loving the sound of it. I doubt that there's a top end hp gain but it does reduce spool up time and improves throttle response and seems to bring my useable powerband down about 500rpm's.

I couldn't find a reasonable thread on cleaning the SPT intake..
How do you clean it?? Buy one of those filtercharger K&N kits? I didn't see anything regarding cleaning in the instructions included. |

Seeing this about how the stock intake is pretty good, maybe I should remove the AEM short ram intake the previous owner put on. I heard that it just sucks up more hot air and is not much of an improvement. What do you guys think?

Has anyone measured the pressure drop in the 04+ WRX/STI intake system?

I switched to the SPT intake and love it... But, since I am here, I was stuck and had to leave the 'snorkel' in the fender well...
How do you get that piece out. It is between the funnel and the filter box (that U shaped piece in the fender) |
