^Those wheels make the brakes look terrible. There's room for another 2 inches of brake rotor easily...

Ha, I was there that night. They're a good package deal, but the first city pothole and its cry about it while you wait for AAA. They do look sharp but 19s no thanks. I took a few photos like that. I still think its funny that those wheels are off my old friends GTI 20AE from D.C. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30079 Yeah, XXRs look good and are cheap, but they are heavy for this car. I'm more of a fan of XXR 530s. Probably because I like the BBS Motorsport look, I always have. Last edited by turbocat; 03-21-2013 at 03:42 PM. |

So we moved out to Denver and had to take emissions to register the car out here. Failed of course. HC, CO, and CO2 were fine but my NOx level was 5.1 gpm where the limit is 1.5. Any idea why? Im going to take it back in a few days and let it really warm up before it gets tested again. Have a cat on it already and hoping its not that. Have aftermarket headers, downpipe with cat, and catback for the exhaust.

Isnt egr valve for that? Exhaust gas recirculation. Supposed to lower nitrogen oxide? That is what the cat does also.
NOTE: wrx does not have an egr valve so i would check the cat, or add some fuel to the tune maybe? Last edited by slowgenius; 03-22-2013 at 12:54 PM. |

Could be way off but aren't most high flow cats bogus for sniffer tests? Especially on the turbo scoob since you are replacing 2-3 with just 1, usually further from the heat too. Even the OBDII picks that up, which is why you get a CEL without a tune. I'd think a tailpipe measurement would be more sensitive since they're looking for more specific gasses and levels.
Admit I don't know jack about sniffer tests but seems logical that it could cause probs. |

^That sucks that they are actually doing a sniffer test even on an OBDII car. But I guess that's the price you must pay if you want to smoke weed legally.

i do think you overrate the protection 3/4 inch more flexible rubber sidewall gives a wheel. the unsprung mass, and it's ability to move out of the way of and with an obstacle, and damp the impulse is more important for not bending wheels than just having strong hoops. the strength of aluminum is finite, and most any quality wheel will have a similar hoop and bead profile, and thus similar resistance to bending. if being about, but keeping below the plastic deformation of that material is the goal, changing the moving mass is more effective way to do that than adding a bit more steel reinforced rubber bumper onto the impulse point. what i'm saying is heavy and cheap wheels are more likely to bend. |

Anyone have a good recommendation on where to get wheels fixed locally? Valet in NYC curbed my TCiii and I need to get one repowderocated and possible a small weld to fix the damage. Was going to send them out to wheel collision in Bath but if I can do it local I would rather do that for sure
