A lot can change in a few months as a producer is trying something new

In any case, stopping by the dealership today to talk numbers and possibly place a deposit. I've never jumped out of a car so soon (only had my Golf TDI for 8 months), but at least the trade-in/resale of the TDI's is ridiculous comparatively speaking.
I may be with you. I traded my 08 OBS for a new Golf TDI, but I'm loving the new Impreza model and diesel is about 40 cents higher down here, so the difference in gas mileage might actually favor the Impreza in the long run.

Don't fall into that short-term fallacy of "diesel is more expensive, so the savings are awash". There are some cases, depending on how much you drive, that it is true, but not always.

-Golf TDI, assuming 44mpg, $3.40/gallon: $2,318 per year (@30,000 miles per year that I currently drive)
-Impreza, assuming 34mpg, $3/gallon: $2,674

Only if the Impreza got 34mpg and the Golf got 38mpg would the $.40 be a wash under the parameters above. There are other factors like the torque from the golf (236ftlbs vs 145ftlbs), etc. that you have to consider. Plus, other things like free maintenance on the Golf for 5 years, 50,000 miles add up to some savings as well.

HOWEVER, the long-term thought that these new diesels will last 300,000 care-free miles is just as much a fallacy...it's not so much the price at the pump as it is thinking of possible repairs at 120,000 miles on the Golf TDI with it's ridiculous emissions system I just don't know if I am willing to take the gamble with a car I plan to keep 10+ years. In theory, the diesels of yor were excellent candidates for the mileage I drive, but the new CR designs from VW are just a hot mess- and we haven't even seen what they'll cost us at 100,000+ miles as there aren't a lot of U.S. owners with that mileage just yet

Ah, dangit, is the HD radio only available on the limited, or if you upgrade to the navigation? Guess I'll just get the limited at this point.

Yeah, I was disappointed that you had to upgrade to a CVT model to get Moonroof and Navi.

Is this a new "sport" grille? If so, I like it!

Subaru keeps trying for that winged effect, and just doesn't work. This is much simpler and much cleaner.

Thanks for the feedback. Those are good things to keep in mind. I drive 100 miles on the highway 5 days a week, so I'm getting 44/gal most days [up to 46/gal when I arrive at work some days]. I do love the torque and handling of the TDI, although I haven't driven it in snow or on ice. I cannot imagine having a car past 100K. I never have kept one that long. Frankly, saving $300 a year isn't that big of a deal to me if I like a car.

Sure looks like the Impreza Sport has a two-tone exterior. I thought I read that Subaru intended to drop the two-tone on the "sport" models. Cool. I'm a sucker for the two-tone look.

I work for a dealership. Got a chance to drive a CVT Hatchback and a 5spd Sedan. The sedan was a total base model. I like the way they drive. The 2.0L does not feel anymore underpowered then the outgoing 2.5L did. I really dig the new interior as well. The materials have gotten much better. Reminds me of the 02-07 Interior as far as materials. Only drove them about 3 blocks but they certainly caught peoples eyes. I'd own a Hatchback no problem.

How did the CVT drive vs. the 5-speed? I'm used to (and enjoy) driving a 5-speed but I like the idea of the CVT and the theoretically better gas mileage it should offer.

You have to upgrade the price to get a CVT.

Its smooth, a lot like the legacy, although i didnt hear whine like i did in the leggy. But the 5spd felt a bit more peppy. I would go 5spd all the way, but I have always owned manual subbies so I am biased.

I was just on cars101.com and I couldn't find anything about the $500 pre-order incentive. Anyone have a link to something official that shows it? Did they stop doing this?

They (Subaru) send you an email with a link specific to you to choose the incentive.
