Very nice! Crap, I only did 420whp at 22PSI on a HE351CW.... I don't see that extra 5PSI giving me an extra 158whp. That BEP drop in wheel and hot side are doing work!

I was very impressed also for a junkyard turbo that I cleaned up lol. We could have pushed the car more but did not want to chance anything with the ARP2000 rodbolts and semiclosed deck. The 93oc and e85 was done at 17deg base timing also. I was tempted to just tell him to keep making power but the adult in me told me to chill and just drive the car and have fun. Im extremely happy that it made those numbers on 27psi also.

Great setup... Did they fab that up-pipe in frame? Wonder if they made a jig? I spent days getting the 351 to fit and Im still not in love with it.
What are you doing for an oil drain back? I fought with crappy hose forever, now I tap the head, and weld up CSST with fittings. Working around the angles between the CHRA and compressor/turbine have been challenging. |

It was fabbed up on a jig. Evan Carpenter started making rotated kits and headers a couple years ago when he was just starting off with fabbing through a group on facebook. He has since went professional and this is the website to check some of his work out. http://www.bnmperformancefab.com/. His work is top notch. I believe he uses full front clips of cars for fabbing also. Its also schedule 10 stainless.

By any chance did you do any testing with the factory wheel? I ask because I have a 7blade hx40 wheel on an hx35 and I’m trying to determine if it under performs at lower boost because because I have some hidden problem or just because the wheel won’t flow. I plotted it in the compressor map and where I’m running it it doesn’t look at bad. Just left of the main efficiency island.

Injector 4 leaked at 30psi of air pressure. Got a second set of orings in there as per Iag’s advice as I have their rails. Couldn’t get them to deal with second oring. Called id, they said they should leak unless I have fuel pressure behind the injector. Took out second o ring. I got a custom t3 in, vband out .63 hotside that I swaintech’d. That bep wheel is interesting but that’s some $$$ for a wheel. I’ve seen where an improved setup will run less boost but equal or more power. Boost can be considered a measure of restriction. Kinda thing that sets my brain on fire. |

Is the .63 a Tims housing? My buddy is going to be using that on a hx40 on a 2.35L.
I got the BEP on black Friday sale. Just to put it in perspective... I bought 2 used HX40s from a caterpillar dealership used for $125. I then kept the better one and sold the other for $100 to a buddy. I then bought a rebuild kit for $20 and rebuilt it on a bench. The stainless BEP exhaust housing was $375 and the BEP impeller wheel was $350. IMO its not too shabby for a $770 fresh legit Holset. This turbo has surpassed what I thought it would make and I cant wait to actually push it. The temps are dropping around here and I will soon have some dragstrip data to back this combination up. |

I paid a little over $700, just not sure if I wanna out another $700 into it. I’m currently having my motor built with some bigger cams so I’ll see how well the turbo performs when it can breathe. I told my builder I wanted to step down into something smaller but he insisted I stay with it and see what it can do. |

Heads are getting done too. I was considering the wicked wheel because like you said it is a good chunk cheaper than the batmo, and seems significantly lighter than stock. Still haven’t found any real world info on how the hx40 wicked wheel flows. Thank you for the advice, I’ll give it a second look

Yes.. definitely a lot. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears from me and 2 buddies in this car. The car sat for 3 years while I built everything and acquired parts. The body only has 26k miles on it right now.

So I was able to get some shakedown runs of the setup on sunday at the Mitsubishi vs Subaru event at Cecil County Dragway. This is my first time on a pro tree for the heads up class I was in. I will get the pictures of the timesheets and video added in a couple days.
1st pass of the trailer: 1.8 60ft and went 11.2 at 127mph. LC set at 5800. I was trying to ready myself for the pro tree light and was only able to get on the 2 step for a fraction of a second. Once back in the pits I found that the car needs like 3-4 seconds to get 10-12psi from LC. I also found a boost leak at the compressor housing and fixed it. 2nd pass: 1.5 60ft and then I missed 3rd and 4th.... still went 12.8. I raised the LC to 6800rpms on this pass and the car reaallllllyyyy liked this out of the hole. 3rd pass: (first round eliminations) 1.6 60ft and went 11.2 at 120mph. LC was still set at 6800rpms. I blew a charge pipe off in 4th gear hence the lower trap speed. This pass the car was an animal and could have been my 10 second pass if it didn't blow a coupling off. I still ended up winning this heads up pass. Cecil eventually just shut the event down due to time and the purse was split between all first round winners. |
