Default BAD sap damage

I got to thinking. I have a few spots on my roof that are badly damaged by sap. Probably etched its way into the clearcoat. Would taking some 1500 or 2000 grit to it go any good? Its already messed up, so its hard to make it worse. Then go over it with a buffing wheel in a drill? I'm no paint expert so good tips welcome.

I'm no expert either but check autopia.org before you commit to anything...

Has the paint been eaten away yet? Or is it just the clearcoat? (Pics help) I had what I thought was just tree sap, later ran my hand over it, was smooth all the way across but the paint was gone underneath. I haven't a clue what is going on with my paint.

i had most of my hood covered with sap for some time, but a full day with a clay bar solved my problems. it was a pita, though.

This is beyond claybar in some cases. I'll post pics tonight if I remember.

Ok I have mainly two types of sap. Old stuff that is beyond claybar (you can't even feel it really) and new stuff that is still soft and I will tackle tomorrow. I have bug/tar/sap stuff, goo gone, wd40 and other stuff laying around. I also have a Mothers magic ball or whatever it is - the thing you put on the end of a drill. I'm confident in taking on the fresh stuff...just snag it off and work at it with the chemicals but its the really really in there stuff I'm looking for advice on.

Thanks guys.

The 2nd one looks like it is removable with claybar/etc, the 1st/3rd look a LOT like what I have on my car. Unfortunately, the spots are still there...
