My comment?

RX8 is now in STX with 265s.

Just give me my jacket now. (I think this is what I'm gonna do next year if I can unload my truck.)

ITR in DS no more.... I fail to see why there was a need to bury the car that was an easy 50% of the DS field at nats this year.

So, the 135i and E46 M3 are now in STU and can use 285s.

I agree. It's almost absurd to the definition of absurdity.

Brilliant!*

* Note use of sarcasm.

(... and how many DSP cars start as BS cars? Certainly they'll have to follow up on this brilliance and kick the Type R out of DSP now...)

Allegedly, the SEB made a mistake in sending some things to the BOD, and the BOD, as usual, made a blanket approval without knowing.

Certainly, if you previously saw in the Solo section of the FT that something was being passed to the BOD for approval, than it is probably correct. A few things (items 8 & 9 jump out at me) were not yet SEB approved and got mistakenly passed on for BOD approval.

This is not to say those items won't ultimately get passed on for approval, but we were waiting until after Nationals to get more data and make some final decisions. There are a bunch of teleconferences this week to discuss these things. All I can say at this point is those, and perhaps a few other things were not approved. So, please hang tight and watch for some sort of correction on what should have been passed to the BOD for approval. The SEB and committeess will be working hard to get the correct information out there ASAP.

Sorry for the panic!

I thought I'd heard something about that. I'll bite my tongue for the time being, but at least 1 of the proposed moves makes no sense. Putting a FWD car into a "sports car" class so that it doesn't taint the class for RWD saloon's is puzzling at best. The Mini is just as quick as the R, put the R in GS again if you're gonna move it!

Thank god I'm not one of the black helicopter crew or I'd think BMW has paid off the SCCA again. HS, GS, SM, and potentially DS would be BMW classes. What other make is "the car" for that many classes?

Getting rid of the single turbo only language was good, I wonder if a Supra could actually do anything in STU?

RX-8 + 265 = time to let the 2.5 WRXs in.

But the RX8 is only a 1.3L.

so does this apply to the WRX only or WRX and WRX STi??

Also anyone know what was in these:

Hardly a clarifichange. I remember putting the turbo heat shield back on Keith's car back in his STX days (didn't make it back on by accident during the down pipe install IIRC, then when noticed was put back on to make the car legal). The turbo has never been considered part of the exhaust in Solo rules context and similarly the turbo heat shield is as much a part of the exhaust as the throttle body.

Correct, it's more of a 'reminder' that the heatshield, since it's not solely attached to the exhaust (there's a bolt that touches the turbo/engine), it's not legal to remove/replace. Gotta run the stocker. Always been that way. As solo-x said, when my car had the exhaust done, the heat shield wasn't put back on (had to get/borrow one because it had already rusted away, so it had to be cut off).

My comment? Inspect your brake lines carefully, traitor

Well, if you win nats, maybe the AWD cars can at least get 9" wheels to legitimately run 245's.

Yeah. I think this is in there because I mentioned to JR at the DC Pro that his chimney heatshield wasn't legal, and then he talked to Doug Gill about it, and later sent an email asking for explicit clarification. (He fixed it before the FL pro)

I understood that you couldn't replace the stocker with an aftermarket part, but would you interpret that to mean you have to run an entire stock heat shield, or just part of it? I followed the cobb instructions and cut the stock heat shield when I installed the DP.

Sounds like another item to add to the off-season worklist.....

Then it's an illegal mod. You have to run the complete stocker. Ie: No where in the rules does it mention that you can modify/remove the stock heat shield. It's not for exhaust, it's for the turbo.

Are heatshields changes allowed in ESP? IIRC, the rules state that heat shields may be removed but someone mentioned that because it touches the engine it was part of the engine?

EDIT:
So, these changes are all approved now? So I can change calipers and rotors in ESP? I like how they changed the working for brake ducts to eliminate the "must be ina forward position only" wording that no one could explain to me. Too bad I just bought some 4000 series DBA's as it looks like 2 piece Al hat rotors are now allowed.

Looks like pitch mounts can be changed to anything as long as they retain the same type (ie piston vs solid rod).

Problem is, it's not an exhaust heat shield.

Now, I think you guys should write in to try and have it re-worded to "Exhaust and turbo heat shields..."

Man, if all that stuff gets approved, I can see a good 90% of the existing GS cars (flipping through the rule book) should then get moved down to HS....if they can't compete with a 200hp LSD turbo MINI with wide tires, how can they compete with even more hp/tire/brakes with roughly the same weight?

Letters starting now....how about the 2.5RS in HS? Yeehaw!

So basically you can replace the downpipe, but since you can't modify the turbo heatshield to accommodate the downpipe then really you can't unless it fits under the stock heatshield? Is that basically what they are saying? So pretty much every STI in STU is illegal then?

I've been running 245s on my 7.5" rotas for two years and love it. Not sure I understand the "legitimate" portion of that statement..

Well crap. I've been running w/o one for two years now and with the TXS TMIC, you can't. I'm assuming that I can remove it to allow fitment for the TMIC?? {crosses fingers}
