Default Bigger turbo and AP question

If I was to go with a bigger turbo does access port or any other engine management system still work once the turbo is installed? Just a question that has been on my mind for some time. Im trying to decide in the future if i should go with a bigger turbo.

When you do something that drastic, you will need a new tune.

But yes, there are engine management systems that are flexible enough to handle that change. Hang out in the Factory 2.5L forum and the various engine management forums.

That's the basic point of having aftermarket EM systems ... to accomodate modifications to the car. An AP will definately handle any turbo you want to throw at the car as long as the rest of the car is adequately modified (injectors, etc) to support it.

What he's trying to say is...

Cobb has maps for an FP18G and a VF39 on an '06 WRX. Anything else will require a custom tune.

Yes, with an '06 you should be able to run up to an 18G without changing injectors. Fuel pumps are cheap, like $100. I would do the pump just for fun.

You will still need engine management and a tune, you cannot simply bolt in a turbo and go without expecting potentially disastrous results.

Im looking at http://blouchturbo.com/turbos/result/, does it matter which of the 18g turbos you get to put into your car, which you dont have to change fuel injectors? Because it is showing 4 different types and i dont know if for all 4 you dont need a change.

Yes, sorry. My post about not changing injectors was still assuming you already had an AccessPort.

They all have the same size compressor wheel, so no.

If you switch to an 18G you will definitely, absolutely, pisitively need some sort of aftermarket engine management. Cobb AP, UTEC, reflash, etc. I would also recommend a custom tune. I gained about 30WHP over the "stock" Cobb Stage 2 map after I was tuned.

your UTEC or AP will still work with whatever turbo you decide to put on. you can have someone tune your car for whatever setup you have, then they can load that map onto your AP or UTEC, so you can still use your EM after you upgrade.
