2000 RS with EJ20 help!
hey, I'm fairly new here and i've been reading posts and searching for the past 2 or 3 days here, and have a few questions.
i just bought a 2000 2.5 rs and the guy blew the engine and droped in a ej20 turbo engine. i've got a standalone and i know about all the wiring. this is what the car needs though: -turbo and wastegate -exhaust (has header and up-pipe) -blow off valve -I/C piping -fuel pump questions: i dont know what turbo to buy. i was thinking a t3/t4, VF22 or something like that. the car will be daily driven, taken to the track and raced and i was looking for something that can handle good horsepower. what would you guys recomend? also what is a good wastegate? what exhaust will fit this aplication? seeing as it's turbo, will 02 or 04 wrx exhaust work? i was thinking about getting 3" turbo back. any recomendations? for the I/C piping, it's got a nice front mount on it but i dont have a clue where to run the piping. does someone have lots of engine bay pics so i can get a visual? and the fuel pump, i read that a walbro 342 will work good and just drop in the tank. is this so? thanks for all your help in advance.

There are some good turbo and exhaust discussion in the FAQ in the 2.0l Forum. The turbo suggestions depend on drag vs autox set up and how much power and supporting mods you really want to do.
The WRX stock exhaust will work except for one hanger on the can, that is not really needed. If you want an upgraded turbo and big power you will want the 2.5 or 3.0" set up. They are good exhaust discussions in the same forum. I have VF23 with stock WRX exhaust in my Version 4. It goes pretty good. Using a top mount and Walboro pump no problems. |

I hear the best bolt on turbo is VF34. You get ball bearing spooling efficiency and achieve boost at lower rpm.Plus its a direct bolt on turbo with only the need for management, beefier 565cc injectors, and definately a walbro fuel pump. Top end max Hp gains arent as much as VF22 or T3 but u get a drivable power curve for a streetable monster.
Check out i-club.com product review and they go over almost every diff turbo thats out there. Thats where i got this info from. |

which ej20 did he drop in .. makes a biiig difference
assumign ej20 from a usdm wrx -turbo and wastegate on a budget vf-39 else vf-34 (super budget td04 <$50) your goiing to need bigger injectors tho -exhaust (has header and up-pipe) if you have a 5 speed any wrx turbo back 93+ will work -blow off valve i would start with a stock wrx intercooler and bov (<$50 -I/C piping stock wrx stock usdm wrx -fuel pump walboro |

thanks for the reply guys!
well, he dropped in a JDM EJ20 from a twin turbo b4 legacy. doing a single turbo conversion. I was actually leaning towards a Super 16G turbo from deadbolt because they spool nice and have the top end of an 18G. also they have free rebuilds for life..... i heard the IHI vf34 turbos and such can be rebuilt as easy if you need them. i did a LOT of reading and searching. I found some exhaust (3" turbo back), I've got a walbro fuel pump, and i'll just get a stock BOV. do stock wrx BOV's hold boost well? i've got a top mount and a front mount for my car....would there be any advantages/disadvantages to running both? |

so for now i think i'm just going with the top mount until i find all my piping and stuff for the front mount.
also, dont these engines use both a mass airflow sensor and a MAP sensor? |
