Default Audi Expects A3 Sedan to Be the Range’s Bestseller

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/06/aud...be-ranges.html

Quote:
On Wednesday, Audi started production of the new A3 sedan, a model that the carmaker expects to outsell the A3 hatchback and convertible variants. "We assume every second A3 customer will opt for the sedan in the future," Audi spokesman Josef Schlossmacher said. The A3 sedan is mainly aimed at the U.S. and Chinese markets, where sedans are more popular than in Europe.
Audi has invested more than 900 million euros ($1.2 billion) to expand the Gyor factory, which is one of the world's largest engine manufacturing facilities. The plant also builds the TT sports car and the A3 convertible. The A3 Sedan will more than triple the site's annual car production to 125,000 vehicles.

The Audi A3 Sedan will arrive in European showrooms in the third quarter of this year with a starting price of €24,300 ($32,275) in Germany. Sales in the U.S. will begin early next year, while China sales will start at the end of this year. The A3 Sedan will also be manufactured in China at the newly-built Foshan plant for the domestic market.

Audi has created 2,100 additional jobs in Hungary because of the plant expansion, with the carmaker’s workforce in the country growing to more than 9,000 employees.

The Audi A3 Sedan will initially be available with three engines, one TDI and two TFSI units, with power outputs between 140 PS (138 hp) and 180 PS (177 hp). The top-of-the-line version is the the Audi S3 Sedan with 300 PS (296 hp).

I Hope they bring the new S3 hatchback here. Even sedan would be nice...

I believe they've confirmed that we will at the very least see the S3 sedan

So WHEN will the USDM S3 be on sale? Early next year? Made in China? Hmmm.

Made in China for the Chinese market.

I would LOVE an Audi S3 hatch, but that is not going to be in the cards anytime soon, for me.

I think S3 would start low 40s to 55k for fully equipped. The S4 starts at $48k.

So maybe $43K

It would be a good STI alternative at that price...

Audi A3, the new A4.

Seriously, if these trends in 15 years, they'll need to make a A.25, and an A.125.

Just stop making your smaller cars bigger each year...enough already. That goes for everybody.

It has been this way for the last 20 years. Why change now?

So the lowest priced car in your luxury stable will be your best seller, go figure. (the only reason the A3 wasn't before is was the hatch only configuration.

So because they've been doing it, they should keep doing it? Wow, tremendous justification there.

Why change? Because the pattern is silly. Because the last thing we need are bigger, heavier cars, year after year. Because they're going to run out of numbers. Because I wouldn't be caught dead in a mere "1 series" or an A2, or an A3. I mean, who can get laid in one of those?

You suck at comprehending sarcasm.

Again, though, this is how the industry works. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes bad. In the case of the '14 Forester, bigger was better for me. It meant the difference between buying a Subaru Forester and not buying a Subaru Forester.

Whoops, sorry. If I'm honest, my lack of comprehension extends well beyond sarcasm.

It gets bigger because "this years model is exactly the same as your last model just looks different" doesn't bring return buyers". "This model has 3 more inches of leg room than your model" makes people trade in cars.

Oh man, that S3 version with 293hp sounds real nice. I might have to reevaluate my next car situation. I've always been a fan of the S4's and thought that it might be my next vehicle. However, they seem to be getting too big. The S3 looks to fit the bill perfectly for me.

This. Added to my list of contenders in 6-8 months.

3,200lbs for a 300HP german luxo sedan. Not bad. Tunable to at least 360-380 I'm sure. The new STi better have some serious performance improvements, cause a loaded Limited will be north of $40k I'm sure.

I hear the hatch. Put a manual in it and I won't think about Subaru and their Sedan any more.

I hope so. I remember reading an article on Autoblog a couple months ago where Audi had changed their mind decided to bring it over, despite originally deciding against it. Ideally my girlfriend and I were thinking about getting that as a replacement for her 2010 Corolla (which is running fine, but she might just give it to one of her parents). I'm hopeful for it.

Well, you can get the VW Golf R if you want to row it yourself. It's kind of similar.

okay, at that price why would this be more attractive than a less expensive 135i?
