Checking all the boxes for a top-flight Honda Odyssey yields a MSRP of $51,251... Admittedly that's a weird scenario but $40-45k minivans are quite common.

Quite common = how many percent?

I suggest you find some sales data to support your argument, then you can pretend that quite common equals whatever answer you find.

For the Odyssey again, a quick google shows that the EX-L trim line comprises about half the volume. http://www.autofairhonda.com/2011-honda-odyssey.htm As EX-L models are two steps down from the $45k precipice of Touring Elite I'd imagine mean transaction prices are easily in the $35k range for that trim.

A little arithmetic reveals that Touring and Touring Elite combined account for 21%, just shy of the 29% of the bottom two trim lines. The Touring +/- Elite models are the ones going for $40-45k.

I'd say 21% of a hell of a lot per year is common.

I don't understand why uttering the term 'minivan' is worthy of being fired.. minivans are still a very large market and while they're a styling faux pas for some, SUVs are a political faux pas for others.. so why not get equally upset about the SUV tag for an electric vehicle that's obviously not intended for off-road use?

We're probably giving them loans because they're an American company that's proven that they can bring emerging technology to market faster than the existing big 3. I don't see why there's so much hate.

The rear seats are forward facing. You can see a picture here.

So honda is the only company producing minivans?

Looks much better in the video. That trunk is far bigger than I would have guessed and all the seats fold flat. The X stuff starts about 15 minutes in:
