utec knock I think?
I got my UTEC stage 3 tuned at curry's automotive in virginia last week and took my car out to the track tonight. I think im getting knock in 3rd and 4th gear but not sure if thats what it is. In third around 5500 rpms the CEL flickers and goes away and feels like the car doesnt want to pull for a second then goes to normal then same thing in 4th. What is this? Also do you think I should just take it back to the shop and they should fix it for no extra charge or should I expect another tuning charge?

you need to log a run on the 3rd and 4th to see what causes the knocks
it can be too much timing advance, high EGT, too lean, too much boost... etc etc Have the shop check it if you dont have a laptop... but its always best if you have a laptop to work with the utec |

I just went out for a quick drive at Wot on a new tank of gas and didnt get any knock whatsoever. Im going to datalog tonight and post the sheets but do you think bad gas can cause knock?

why you would take your car to currys for tunning is beyond me. Why didnt you ask the Mid-A forum where to go?

knock can be caused by MANY things -- and yes, thats what was happening when the cel flashed. It could have been the gas, the weather was colder or warmer, or its just too aggressive.
The UTEC pulls timing for a few RPMS, that was the lag in power you felt. Its very sensitive and thats a good thing. It will usually pull timing faster than the stock ECU will. If it happens rarely, thats pretty much to be expected. If it happens often you need to tone it down in the areas you are having problems. Usually it just means dropping boost slightly, or taking out a point of timing. Rob |

Wirelessly posted (blackberry: BlackBerry6280/3.7.1 UP.Link/1.1)
Post a log for us. Even if you are not knocking now we can still. See what timing you ecu wants to run vs. What the utec wants to run. That can give us an idae where your ecu has seen knock before. |
