What aftermarket struts would be good to install with Swift Spec R springs? Or would I be good with he OEM ones?

STI? Swift Spec R are very firm in the rear. OEM is pushing it. 2018 STI would be too soft IMO. Gtworx Bilsteins would work well.

I pressed in Group N front lower control arm bushings (front position) this weekend. What a bitch that whole install was. The control arms are even harder to reinstall with these harder bushings. There's not much of a noticeable difference, it _seems_ like the steering wheel is less affected by bumps/lane reflectors but since its so cold out and my tires are toast its hard to say if there's a big difference. I'm going to do the toe link ones in a few weeks because those should be easy by comparison.

I'm on Swift Spec R with stock struts for 9 months now and about 15k miles including 2 track days, no problems. Struts still feel the same as day 1 and no leaks.

The bilsteins I believe are the only strut option on the market and for the price + springs I'd buy coil overs before I went that route.

I have been planning on pairing the GTWorks struts with The Swift Spec R's. So far I love the Spec R's. What Autocross I have done has proven to be a good option.

Hey all—

I am going to be installing swift springs on my 2016 WRX Limited this weekend. I have done full assembly replacements in the past on other vehicles but never done a spring swap.

I had a few questions

1. I see that people were recommending the use of a pass thru socket for the removal of the center nut from the strut. Am I missing something here? Couldn’t I just use a wrench and an Allen key?

2. I haven’t seen any pictures of inverted strut install versus standard, anything I should be aware of here?

3. For the rears, do I need to lightly snug everything together while the car is in the air and then tighten everything down to spec after the weight of the car is on the wheels?

I appreciate the help.

I have scoured the thread for a couple days but haven’t found exactly the info I am looking for.

You can't use a wrench because the top nut does not protrude out enough from the tophat. You can see for yourself just by removing the little round cap on the tophat under the hood without removing anything off the car.

Ah okay that makes sense. Was planning to start pulling it apart tonight. Thanks for the callout.

Any one on here know what has changed dampening and spring wise on the 2018 WRX or STI. I was under the impression that it had been changed again for the 2018 model year.

My understanding is the dampeners were changed in the sti. They still look identical, and mine still took the swift springs for a 2017, no problem. I will say, the stock 2018 sti ride was more compliant than out 2015 WRX by far. It was similar to my 2011 sti.

Got the Swift fronts installed on my 2016 Limited WRX tonight.

I noticed the Swift’s don’t have any rubber/plastic sheathing around the spring like the stock ones do.

Swift’s didn’t come with any instructions, I looked at the RCE installation and it didn’t mention anything about moving the sheathing over to the new springs.

Anyone know if I was supposed to remove the sheathing from stock springs and apply to the Swift’s? Or just install as is?

Thanks.

Can anyone add any feedback regarding The GTWorx struts? I'm desperate to get rid of the bounce ( I have WRX Premium shocks with RCE yellows) but am really struggling with the price - especially as I am in Aus and shipping adds a couple of hundred at least.

I'm getting the impression that not many sets have been sold as reviews are few and far between.

We sell quite a bit of these and reviews are on various forums over the last 8 years we've sold them.

Thanks Myles, I should explain myself. I am a fan of your company, hence the fact that I have yellows on my current car (16 WRX Prem.) I had RCE yellows and GTWORX struts installed on my previous G3 WRX which were excellent. I have recommended them to anyone who will listen.

This time I am really after more detailed feedback regarding these struts on VA cars as the new suspension is much improved over previous generations. I am trying to compare these to a very good local option and as always I need to do a cost-benefit analysis.

I have searched a lot, and even the GTWorx/RCE websites have no customer reviews for the 15+.

Im writing a full review of the 2018 STI. One thing I make note of and its obvious the second you hit the very first bump is how much softer it is. Spring rates AND shock valving. The rear is noticeably softer.

Would regular Bilstein B6 be just as functional to decreasing the bouncy ride (considering the B6 due to my budget)?

For reference I have a base 17 with stock shocks/struts with RCE yellows. As the springs broke in, I've been noticing more bounce over large bumps.

You’d want b8’s with the yellows.

B8 and B6 have the same valving. The B8 has a shortened stroke.

Both will be an improvement over stock with RCE Yellows. They're a quality and well-built shock.

Our GTWORX Bilsteins are a bit different from the standard Bilsteins. Our Bilsteins are a bit more "balanced" than OEM which are very firm up front and on the softer side in the rear. Our rear is firmer than OEM and B6/B8 (which are close to OEM). This helps solve the bounce issue.

The handling balance with ours is a lot of fun...and reducing the bounce in the rear while not going so stiff up front helps keep the ride civil and controlled.

I have the RCE Blacks, and GTWORX struts on my 18 STI. The initial feel of this set up was a marked improvement over stock, which was an improvement over 17 and back. But now after they have broken in I cannot be happier with my choice. A friend of mine drove the car and when he got back the first thing he said was "F'you, now I have to have them too".

Words won't do them justice, you have to feel it for yourself.

bungarra, I see you are in Elkridge, if you want to meet up to test it out for yourself let me know.
