thought that was torps 101?

must say I prefer close spread most often.

If you like the Pheonix, just wait for the Omaha. Not quite as many guns but, boy howdy can they do work. Phoenix does have really good range to take advantage of though.

Think I've had the most fun in the Kuma, Isokaze, and Minekaze so far.

The Nicholas is quite fun as well. Packs a nice punch.

I loved the omaha. The 2nd hull is best, it has 2 banks of torps per side for huge amounts of damage. I never equipped the 3rd hull, which gets rid of a bank of torps in exchange for extra AA. (which imo isn't needed since dodging torp planes in this ship is way easy.)

I think the last hull upgrade is kinda meant more for cv support, people that play in "battle groups"

A couple of those well placed could deflect all but the stronger plane attacks.

Where I am cloudy on is, how much xp is shooting planes down worth? I've heard it's zero.

Then whats the point?
I mean yes it is useful to shoot down planes in the respect that it helps your teams survivability and perhaps your own, but it should be worth some xp you would think?

Anyways I hope that is true about unlocking the training room and putting AI in them, because I need serious work with torpedoes. I am a terrible judge at how much I need to lead ships. Of course I have a whole whopping like 15 battles under my belt and maybe tried ships with torpedoes 5 times, but I can tell that actually takes some skill to use.

the grey window works pretty well for me. Unless they turn which is surprisingly rare.

When around islands and such I can get hits just throwing a few blind salvos as close to the edge as possible.

It also really helps to shoot them at someone when they aren't looking at you, or haven't spotted you yet. I've taken out a ton of battleships because they were too busy shooting something cross map to avoid my torps. Then when they finally do see you, they have the wrong ammo loaded to take you out easily. That and trying to get on the wrong side of their turrets can be pretty easy towards the late game.

With Cruisers, I like to spread my launches out a bit, time wise. It keeps them turning and hurts their shot accuracy.

Getting into that magic range/postion without arousing too much attention is usually how I get my good games.

So what is Torps 101? I have like 10 games played total, so I am a complete noob. All I know, is when I play a DD and hit 3, there is no grey window that suggests where to fire, but on some of the YouTube videos the player sees a grey window that seems to give the best estimate on where to fire torps. Is this a commander skill?
Thanks

I'm at tier 3 across US and Jap DDs and Cruisers. Having fun with it.

I think you may also have to be in range for the gray line to appear.

I am just hoping the freezing glitch is over when I get home.

That may be the ticket.

I've been playing US DDs so the range IS rather close. I think the only ships ive sunk with torps were at OMFG FIRE FIRE FIRE ranges... like... inside 2km. So it's likely I didn't notice the grey area.

I would say it's either being in range or not having a target highlighted. I don't think it's range though, otherwise I wouldn't see so many tomatoes in us dd's throwing torps at enemies from 10k away.

The little white circle that appears above the ship you are aiming at indicates the target you have selected. You can select and deselect with the x button. this is needed for both guns and torps. (especially with that auto aim)

I've been playing this game for a while and I love it however the progression from tier four to five ships bother me.

I loved the battleships in the closed beta however in the open beta I'm liking destroyers a bit more.

<2km is perfectly normal range for a DD. It's when you're at "If these torps don't sink him in the next 5 seconds, he's going to break me in half!" range that you have to worry. You want to get in close so he can't track you with his big guns, turn or change speed to avoid your salvo, <500m is good.

I think I'm going to switch to the U.S. tech tree. I'm tired of watching my Japanese cruiser get annihilated by one well placed battleship salvo.

That still happens to Americans.

Press X to target a ship and get the predictive indicators for torpedoes.

Also you can hold CTRL and then mouse click on ships or planes to focus your secondary arms on them.

Holy crap. Game play is much better after watching tutorials and hitting X when wanting to torp someone.
I've learned to play like arty, fire, then maneuver then fire again.
So much more fun.
I am going to wait to play my premium ship till I get more games under my belt. I really look forward to it.

Progression in this game is a pretty steep climb. Going from T6 to T7 on my American CV is going to take 74k XP and 6 million credits.

It's pretty awesome, but I do miss torpedoes.

This game sucked me in a lot faster and harder than tanks did.

tier 4 does pogress a lot slower, especially with the bb's considering you have to use them to unlock carriers if you want to. The Myogi was so tough, less than half the guns of the Wyoming and just as bad accuracy.

I'm confident tier five is better but I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to do the New York, or the Kongo, I usually like to get the worse one out of the way.

I just bought the Kawachi and I wish I hadn't. No range and I'm so slow, that by the time I get to the battle, it's pretty much over with. Miserable reload time too. I might just regress back to cruisers until I get enough XP to upgrade again. This sucks.

Well, I seem to have some kind of freezing bug problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it didn't fix the issue. At the end of every round, the game freezes. If I switch too many ships in port, the game freezes. WTF????

I played the Kongo in closed beta and it was pretty fun however it felt very much like a flavor of the month kind of ship. I haven't had a chance at the New York yet but I know I don't like the carrier play style so my choice is easy.

Holy crap. That poor dude...

Are there in-game tutorials on how to play all these different ships?

Carriers look confusing as hells.
