You should be able to use the stock ECU and just re-tune it for the v8 STi motor

you can run your ver8 motor on a stock ecu but you will have no avcs. Get the iag wire kit and a version 8 motor plus ecu and your golden.

dealership wont know what to do unless one of the techs know how to or is into tunning

You wont be using AVCS if you use your ecu. You also wont be using AVCS if you just plug you jdm ecu in. You need to wire in the AVCS OR buy the IAPerformance plug n play kit. Hit up ClarkTurner for an Etune.

That sounds like a plan. When you say Etune would that be through open source tuning I was leaning toward buying the cable n downloading the software. Am I on track now ?

JDM motors see around 98+ octane equivilent to the US gas.

You must tune the car via "electronic" tune or physically before pushing the car at all. You can cause catastrphic damage.

I suggest doing at least a good week or two, if not more research on jdm motors and tuning before doing what you're planning.

Stephen at IA is on vacation until the 5th, check his site.

Call any place that sells swaps on the vendors thread they should have extra ECUs, a V8 ecu would also work for you.

I have a well sorted rom for running a V7-9 motor on 91 oct here in AZ, I have been working on it for a few months and it is DD stable. You are welcome to give it a go if you can flash it yourself

What are you planning to do with the installed motor?
Is this just a swap with no intentions to upgrade?
What are you using for turbo, injectors, etc?

If you are going greater than 03 stock turbo, etc., then you will need supporting upgrades, including fuel pump

Yes get a fuel pump, the stock injectors on the swap are the pink 560s.

No, you can't just guess.

Make sure what you have for injectors
Make sure they will support the fuel flow to whichever turbo you use
Make sure you have the correct fuel pump.

How do you expect to tune this if you have little to no tuning options in your area?

Check your local forum for tuners.
You could also call some well known tuners on the West Coast and see if they can recommend someone in your area

fuel pump wise the only way to tell is by pulling the pump itself out of the tank and reading the numbers on the side of the pump.

if you dont have a pump get one asap! and make sure its not a take off they die really fast.
