SO much for being its own line/brand. FAILSAUCE. WTF? Looks like a regular Impreza with GIANT mirrors. Worse than the current car. No fender flares? Lets hope this is just Impreza body on the test mule for CAMO. It has to be more aggressive than this if it now its own line, right?!!!!!!!!!!! HIDEOUS fog layout also. Who makes fogs the highlight/focal point of the front end?????????????????

I'm really hoping the new WRX is more aggressive looking than that, and that is just a test mule. It needs some fender flares and wider track as a bare minimum.

Not that I'm going to buy one anyway though....

You are correct that the black car in this picture is a mule. But the new WRX spied in the article is the real deal.

I agree. That hood with the scoop looks way too well done to have been hacked together.

Yeah? That's the real deal? Not just a convenient chassis to throw the FA20DIT for North American testing? Nope can't be that. That's the WRX completely undisguised.

Yeah, like they can't do a short run of hoods for a test mule. I'm sure that's no problem for them since they can pump out concepts here and there.

No, didn't say that. The exterior trim, wheels, tires. ect ect are being dialed in. The interior is being finalized... But its not a true mule as is
the BRZ (black) mule in the photograph. If the driving dynamics (of the WRX) are such that it can be simulated very very well with a 2012 Impreza, then the WRX is going to be based on the 2012 Impreza. Hence, its not a Frankenstein mule. The hood scoop alone is an EXTREMELY strong marker for my conclusion - y'all know the importance of the hood (shape) and scoop design on intercooler efficiency, right?

I bet the hood is the only body panel that is close to what it will actually look like for a wrx/sti.

All one has to do is look at the cutout for the exhausts on the rear bumper to figure out that this is not the body that this fits on. It looks like they took a jigsaw to that thing to make the cutouts, and they only realized after making them that they were too damned big.

lol, bunch of crazy people in this thread going ape**** over a test mule.

I can't thank Subaru enough for building this car. It's perfect in every way. It's particularly great because it is so awful that it is going to drive the book value of my 11 WRX through the roof.

Ugly!!!! I'm glad I put my order in for a 2013 STi ... That is a disappointing mule , but who knows body could change.

I don't get all the speculation of the WRX and STi going separate ways .. Looks like they will be doing the same thing they always have done and base the WRX/STi off of the impreza .

Now the question is , will we see the redesign for the 2014 model , or will it be 2015?

I have been told by many dealerships when I was shopping for a 2013 STi , that the redesign will not come out for at least a couple years .???

When did we start seeing the mules for the 2008 model redesign ?

I wouldn't be surprised if the interior is identical to the current Impreza for the next gen WRX. Are they going to put a 6-speed manual in the base WRX, or is that an STI test mule? Hopefully the final version is a million times better than this mule. Otherwise, I need to make sure I order the current version next spring to replace my 2010 or just move on to something else that lets me have just as much fun.

Wow talk about knee-jerk reaction. I think it's a bit too early in the game for Subaru to bringing out a car for testing in production sheet metal guys. Quicker to use whatever that is convenient for the time being.

it looks promising if they pull off the more aggressive look in the latest Gen.

well that's disappointing... I was really hoping for an all new model. There goes all my interest. They should put this engine in the XV and BRZ though... then they might be onto something.
