Default Good shops in DFW?

Just picked up my first Subaru and inherited a minor project. It’s an 02 bugeye wagon/hatchback (whatever the preferred nomenclature is) with some pretty high miles, 225k to be exact. I’ve already gotten started on the basics- fluids, breaks, rotors, tires.

Unfortunately, I’m not the most mechanical and there are some issues that i need to address sooner than later. I’m looking for a good reputable shop in the DFW area for a clutch job and some other transmission work.

I’ve already been gouged at a dealership for fluids so I’m not looking to go back there. I understand these aren’t the cheapest cars to work on but if y’all know of somewhere fair and thorough please let me know.

Also side note, I’m new to the NASIOC forum and really forums in general so if there is anything I’m doing wrong in my postings or tips for the forum please let me know.

Thanks for welcoming a “scooby newbie”.

As a fellow Nathan and a fellow Subie owner/enthusiast, I highly recommend Auto Science. Ryan is the owner and takes amazing care of your car. Quality of parts and work is his number 1 priority, and it shows. Auto Science was the only shop that ever touched my 2010 STI, and they're the only shop that I intend to have touch my most recent addition.

Can't go wrong. Their shop is located off of 35E in North Lewisville next to the Ford Dealer.

I didnt know Rizzo branched out on his own! Love that dude.

Never been to Autoscience but I did use to work with Ryan's wife Jess and she's good people.

AWDTuning is also really good people. They did all my tuning and most of my work back in the day. All the other work was warranty work done by Rizzo at SoD (when that still was a thing).

Its good to see the community still alive although TXIC seems pretty dead from when I was around in 07/08

Almost all the forums I'm on died with Facebook and Instagram etc.
But try to find good reference material on there? Joke.

If I wasn't too lazy I'd post pics of Shawn's new shop. He really set it up cool.
And Calvin Dotson moved in next door with a AWD Mustang Dyno.

https://kraken-motorsports.com/ <-- squidz shawn's new shop. calvin is also next. door.
shawn is also more or likely the lowest in town at 95.00 an hour.

there is also auto science, awd tuning, and growler motor labs.

call to them get to know the owners, employee, and see what they can do for you.

didn't know about these guys - have heard mixed things about Growler (almost had my daily tuned there, but knew someone who knew someone who worked there, and was advised to go somewhere else instead).

wanted to do a quick bump on this thread.

Just installed Stage 2+ (from 1+ for ~5 months) into my 2019 WRX, just running OTS Cobb map right now but want to get it pro tuned. I'm in Denton.

I'll be honest, it seems that EVERY tuner around has some AMAZING reviews, but also a handful of "they're a scammer" reviews, I I just don't know what to believe.

I'm basically looking at AWDTuning, AutoScience, Kraken... they are all within about 20 minutes of me, so I certainly can't complain about having multiple options to realistically pick from, but for those of you that are local and have experience, can you give some thoughts here? Are some of the 'scammer' posts total BS, are all of these shops considered reputable and good?

I would go with Kraken, After the whole Growler motor labs incident. they stepped up to help those who were screwed over by the shop. AWD is also good from what I heard. but I will be taking mine to Kraken.
