Default Exhaust issue

Iím looking at buying a used axleback and one of the pictures the seller sent shows what Iím concerned is rust. Seller claims discoloration is from high heat due to track use and stains are just tar from the road. What do you think ?
Thank you.

That thing can be brand new in 15 minutes

Check my post here https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...&postcount=484

I restored one that was 500000000x More rusty and dirty than the one you’re interested in

EDIT: Sorry I’m an idiot and forgot to answer your questions. Yes the seller is well informed and honest, that is def road tar and heat discolation. Both can be removed/polished out

the seller is being honest on this one. the black spots do indeed appear to be road muck and the brown/redish stains appear to be Stainless discoloration. Rust on a stainless muffler to be concerned about would be in a deep gouge/dent/crease or at the welds.

some 000 steelwool or stainless polish and some elbow grease. better than new.

Make sure not to use any abrasive, when refinishing, that contains material that will oxidize and corrode later. I have seen steel wool impregnate SS and ruin an entire exhaust. I would suggest scotch brite pads
