Question Window Tint

I would like to learn more about window tint since I am thinking about having it done.
My questions:
To what point is it illegal? (I live in PA.)
Are there differant shades/colors?
What is the cost?
Any special care?
What types of places do quality work?
General pros/cons...
Thanks for any help!!

I've been in a car where a cop pulled over a stock car, and tried to fine him for having to dark of a window tint....lmao, it was stock, so the ticket was invalid. But, that goes to show, in PA, its useless.

I know the tint amounts very from state to state. Here in Oklahoma you can go as dark as 15%.

During my trip to last years West Coast meet I was pulled over and question about my tint and told it wasn't legal in New Mexico.

Chris I'm sorry but you're wrong,
limit in pa: 30% on driver and passenger side windows.
After that cops really don't care what's on the rest of the car, but I wouldn't go anything lower than 10%

for where I live in PA the RS coupe costs $180-$300 professionally... If you live anywhere near me I now most of the guys who do the tint and they only charge $150. I do tint also but i'm not that good.

I know because my girlfriend is a PA cop, and so is my one of my closest friends. And I've been pulled over for tint.

Care? don't smoke in the car for at least 3 weeks. Don't roll your windows down for about a week.

There is a shop here that will do tint, for $175 total (for an RS). They lifetime garuntee it too. I've had friends that had it done, and months later something happened to it, they re-did it. No questions asked. However, I dont need the added problems it may cause with the law, they pick on me enough.

there are some tints which have a limited warranty, and others have lifetime. the shades range from blue, yellow, smoked black, reflective, mirror type reflective. The tint shop will have samples which you can choose from. i have a reflective tint at %20. In wisconsin you can only have %50 on front roll down windows. and %35 for the back windows. i haven't got pulled over yet. and i hope i don't

Question

Ok, here's another question relating to tint:

How does it work when you're travelling interstate. That is, let's say you live in a state with very lax tint laws (e.g. FL where you can pretty much use limo tint, right?) and you drive into Washington D.C. (e.g. limit is ~35%, I think). Can the DC cops still ticket you? Even though your tags, registration, and license show that you're a Florida native?

I've always wondered about that since I do a fair amount of interstate travelling.

TIA,

Jonathan Kent

I guess they can pull you over. After all, Virginia and N. Carolina law applies to Maryland residents who have radar detectors when they venture into their state. But I could be dead wrong here.

Tinted windows aren't there to prevent getting tickets like radar detectors.

Cool

The way of the law should be like SubePwr posted. If you're going through an area with a higher % than you're state, and you are stopped. You show only have to show that where you live this is legal, but if its illegal where you live and the state you're in you can get a ticket. Thanks agian to my GF. Someone should get rschwarzwalder in on this also seeing as he is also a PA cop.

Arrgh! I just got pulled over for having tint (in michigan)- I was not speeding... i pulled up next to him, he saw i had 35% on the front sides, and back, then he changed lanes and pulled me over! He asked me if it was the "turbo" model.. and then we got to talking about the car.. then he gives me a damn citation ticket! So will i get them shaved? HELL NO! im getting a optemolegist's prescription for light sensitivity tomorrow! THen i'll rub it in the cop's face and he'll HAVE to waive the ticket! dont you love beating the system???

*whew* just had to vent there... sometimes police officers make me so mad-- I think he was just jealous of how GOOD my RS looked

Tint goes by the state where your car is registered. If the cop calls up that state and it's illegal, then he can ticket you. Somone above mentioned that, but I figured I'd concour.
