Post Variable Compression Ratio

Anyone seen SAAB's new variable comression ratio. Just thought this was kind of cool. They can vary the comp. from 8:1 to 14:1. 5cyl 1.6l (supercharged) produces 225hp. They tilt the block relative to the crankshaft by up to 4deg. They will have a 2.0l 6cyl producing 280hp.

It's just a shame that they have not put this engine into production the engines use many of the same parts as thier current engines but this line is not yet scheduled for production anytime soon.
Nice to know what's on the horizon though.

According to CAR... "The new engine will be fitted to the next generation of Saabs - by 2003 - with four, five and six-cylinder models in 1.4 to 2.0 litre sizes."

Saab offers more powerplant choices in the UK, so I don't know if the US market will see the SVC here. 225hp from 1.6 liters with capability of returning 36+ mpg is amazing. Now if only they could get it to do all of those tricks at the same time
