I've watched every single game I've been able to see. Some have been bad, some have been completely normal (even well-called), a couple (last night, Skins / Bungles, W1 AZ / SEA) have been atrocious.

Yes, it's skewed well away from "normal," but not enough for it to not be football, which is my point entirely. To be all up in arms about it and freaking protesting outside your mediocre-performing team's home stadium (dumb cheeseheads)? Oooooverboard.

He lay there like a slug. It was his only defense.

I guess I faulted him for at least not attempting to turn away... yeah, it wasn't exactly his fault for doing his job, but he just sat there like a statue. And you're damn right he looked like he got it worse. Homeboy must've had one HELL of a black eye.

I agree.

What we are shooting for, with the return of the regs, is a few less critical errors.

On the upside, they can probably be bought more easily.

But seriously why are so many matter-of-fact decisions not reviewable under the rules. Possession, after the 'whistle', fumble and all the other non-reviewable issues...if you're going to have instant replay, then why not just let everything be reviewable. Sure it might add some time to a random game here and there, but the whole mission of the NFL the last couple of years was to take as much out of the hands of the Ref's screwing up a game...
I couldn't agree more. It's bull**** that a pass interference call or lack thereof isn't reviewable.

It's not even about errors so much as about procedural issues and understanding the rules. Rules are static...it's the interpretation of these rules that brings the human element. But understanding the rules and the procedures of the game is the big issue IMO, not necessarily just the blown calls. I don't care who is reffing an NFL game, calling things like illegal contact, holding, PI are all interpreted differently. But knowing how many timeouts a team needs to call for a challenge or any of the procedural type issues is the real issue at hand.

One of the things I've most been bothered by with the replacements is the "football knowledge" beyond just the rules. For instance, a team is trying to do a hurry-up offense and keep the defense from substituting. There is a potential issue that the refs need to deal with, do they understand the flow of the game well enough to understand that spending 8 minutes discussing a call is a problem or not. Thus far, I've seen examples of them not getting that.

I'm with you. I don't even like football. Having to listen to grown ass men nearly crying, or so mad they are turning red over this or talking about how the refs are gonna need witness protection now is getting old real quick. Thank god I can listen to headphones at my desk.

Not me. Sure, the call sucked, but they shouldn't have been in the situation to allow for a Hail Mary to change the outcome of the game. I'll go on record to admit that 3 weeks of poor offensive output to start the season has nothing to do with the refs. A 1-2 record is where the Packers deserve to be with how they've played over the past 3 weeks. The defense seems to have improved from last year, now the offense needs to get into a rhythm. I'm perfectly happy with them making a 9-7 or 10-6 regular season run, then sneaking into the playoffs as a wild-card, and running the table just like 2 seasons ago.

Right, the bad defensive pass interference call from a few players earlier is actually responsible for putting them in that position.

Perhaps. But they should have been able to move the ball at least 10 yards on their last possession to get a first down. That would have allowed them to run out the clock.

Atlanta (CNN) -- Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham was arrested late Monday, accused of obstructing police and firefighters at the scene of an attempted suicide. He is the second player from the Atlanta football team to be arrested in a week.

Running back Michael Turner was booked for driving under the influence on September 18.

Abraham entered an area responders had cordoned off with crime scene tape, while trying to talk down a woman who was threatening to jump from a floor of a high-rise hotel, said Atlanta Police spokesman John Chafee.

A firefighter ordered the football player repeatedly to leave the scene, Chafee said. But Abraham refused, even when police intervened.

"He again refused and insisted on continuing further into the scene," Chafee said. "Officers then took Mr. Abraham into custody."

He was charged at the county jail with two misdemeanor counts of obstruction. Abraham's relationship with the woman, if any, was not immediately clear.

According to CNN affiliate WSB, the woman did not jump and was taken to a local hospital.

The Atlanta Falcons issued a statement saying it was aware of the incident but declined to comment.
