2010 Ej253 OverHeating
Wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue, I have an overheating issue, that I have been chasing for a while, radiator, temp sensor, thermostat, have been replaced in the last 6 months, actually on my second thremostat, and the water pump was replaced 2 years ago when I had to replace the short block. But I experience the overheating issue at random time, yesterday I autocross ed my impreza all day we did 9 runs at about 45 seconds long, and no issues, as soon as I got on the highway and 4 miles down the road the car over heated, normally the light would just blink red, which tells me the coolant is appove them normal running temp, but this time is was solid red, and I lost the whole reservoir worth of coolant. I'm stuck and the dealership, just keeps telling me to replace parts that I have already replaced, I know you can get bad parts new, but not this many times in a row. Any help will be much appreciated.

If it's been overheated that many times already, it's likely that the head gasket has failed or in the process of failing.

Did the reservoir overflow to lose coolant or is it just using it? If the coolant level keeps dropping, most likely the head gaskets are leaking internally. If it just boiled out because it was hot it may be another issue. Sustained RPM from cruising will run temps up a little, if your condenser fins are jacked up you'll lose a lot of airflow to the rad, happens all the time especially with older cars that get driven a lot.

Subaru head gaskets never fail. It must be something else.
Said nobody ever. Block test it. If you're pushing coolant out like that, it'll no doubt fail a block test. |
