Default Kia Magentis

Quote:

These are the first official pictures of Kia’s all-new Insignia rival, the Magentis, which will make its public debut at the New York Motor Show on 2 April. The striking concept is longer, lower and wider than the previous model, making it near-identical in size to the Vauxhall saloon. What’s more, Kia promises that the new car will feature a lengthened wheelbase to provide more interior space for passengers and luggage.

The car’s front features Kia’s prominent tiger’s snout chrome grille, establishing a clear link between the new car and the rest of the Kia range. In profile, it features a sharply creased C-pillar, mimicking the famous Hofmeister kink seen on all BMWs, and further hinting at Kia’s premium brand aspirations. Lights with horizontal LED bars feature at the rear.

The new Magentis is set to go on sale in the USA and Asia – where it is known as Optima - from autumn 2010, while UK sales will begin in Spring 2011.

The headlights, C-Pillar remind me of the current accord coupe, and for some reason the grill looks like a crying baby.

I'm thinking Forte (i.e. all new KIA styling) on the Sonata chassis.

thats all you can say about Korean car design. "Oh it reminds me of another car that was designed by actual original people."

Right since the Genesis coupe (and sedan for that matter) are crappy copies of original cars

Well the Genesis coupe is a direct rip-off of the Infinity G35/37 coupes. I don't know how anyone could deny that.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. If particular styling cues sell, then all car makes are on the bandwagon. Hyundai is not the first and won't be the last.

At least they don't blatantly do what China does

The sedan is SUCH a copy of classic Lexus and Mercedes, and you can't deny it. Why do you think it has no badge? Its so people who used to have a Mercedes but don't have enough money anymore, (even though its $40k), can still fool people into thinking they have Lexus/Merc.

As for the coupe. It's not really a shameless ripoff of anything, but you can't say its original, or attractive for that matter.

May I ask which company lives up to your lofty standard of design excellence?

no one now that you mention it. I hate the automotive industry. I like cars, but not the business.

The only cars that used to live up to my picky standards were supercars, but even now, those are starting to annoy me with how much they are copying each other. They get so caught up in what the other is doing, that they end up making the same car. The 458 Italia is my favorite design right now. Obviously, in direct competition with Kia and Hyundai.

i like Mercedes too. They've made some pretty original cars. Most recently the CLS, which started the whole sedan/coupe hybrid thing, you know, 4 door coupes. Before that, this was before I was ever interested in this stuff so I'm not entirely sure, but the SL was like the first retractible hardtop, which also started a big trend years later. The S-Class always pioneers the safety and comfort features for almost ALL cars. First car with 3 point seatbelts, first with side airbags, first with built in navigation I believe as well.

What's nice is that even Kia is beating Acura at its own game these days. This looks much better than even the TL.
