Interesting. I never got a reply, so had to go with another vendor.

Good luck.

Wow i think i fixed my nav... For anybody down the road if you have a shorted out speaker your headunit might go into like a protect mode disabling audio functions... Make sure your speakers are functioning!

Question

Hey all -

I'm having trouble with my head unit swap in my 2015 sport premium (non-WRZ). Has anyone successfully removed it? I get the panel with the hazard button and vents off, but cannot remove the head unit.

I'd like to get a thread going with pictures from my head unit swap, because there doesn't seem to be one yet for the 2015. (I can't post threads yet though.) I'm going to attempt to 3D print a dash kit to fit my Pioneer AVH-X2600BT.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for the link, but I've already read this. It's a helpful post, but what it lacks are the instructions for removing the headunit.

I should have been more direct with my problem. I cannot figure out how to get this headunit out of the dash. After I remove the vents/hazard panel, what's the next step? I've pried around the headunit and climate controls without any results.

Thought it was in that one, it's this one: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2691387

Look under your dash on driver side and passenger side. There are bolts there that hold the radio in.

If your still planning to, post a build log. There have been a few posts on removing the radio, but i have yet to see an actual build log with detailed photos.

Do I or don't I need to install the SWI-RC into my 2008 Impreza's aftermarket HU with the 20 pin harness?

Tried to install it all today and there were so many wires and it made me confused with the instructions on what needs to be plugged in and where exactly, so I gave up. but now from what I am understanding, it's possible I don't even need the SWC harness at all. No idea, only have installed a stereo once and didn't buy the SWC interface.

EDIT: Again, this is for my 2015 Impreza (not WRX, 6-speaker, no nav, sport premium trim, hatchback)

I'm working on a build log. So far, I've successfully removed the headunit. The mounting brackets attached to the stock headunit fit nicely on my Pioneer AVH-X2600BT. The only piece left is the bezel around the climate controls and HU (one piece).

I'll attach pictures of the stock HU. Now, ideally I'd like to keep the back-up camera, steering wheel controls, and the stock aux and usb ports functionality. The USB adapter I found on ae64.com. The AUX, SWC, and BU cam I believe to all be bundled in this 28-pin connector on the back of this stock HU. It has to be. The 6-pin and 10-pin sockets exist on older models, but I can't find any information on the 28-pin socket. Can anyone enlighten me? Or point me towards some information? How can I identify the functionality of each pin in this 28-pin socket?

Just got my 2015 WRX 2 weeks ago...
I have been lurking on this site for a while now & could not find this question asked elsewhere

I am trying to get by w/ the poor stock system for a bit before i can get an aftermarket system installed

I cannot get my iPhone6 to play music via the USB connection

It recognizes the device as an iPod
I try to hit play on the phone & immediately the music stops/pauses

I can get it to work fine over BTA, but I would rather play straight through the USB & not have to listen to a compressed BTA signal, making the bad stock system sound even worse.

What am I missing here?
(BTW if this is the wrong thread for this question I apologize)

so further testing has revealed I can only use the USB connection if BT is turned off

as soon as I re-enable BT & it connects the music stops playing via the USB

is there a work around for this?
how can I get USB to work for music & BT to work phone calls?
is this a Subaru issue or an Apple issue?

Unfortunately, Subaru changed to a new (for them) USB connector on the back of the HU in 2015 Impreza, XV, Legacy, and Outback. I'm hoping that the same type is used in some other make(s) so that the aftermarket companies come out with adapters sooner (if they haven't already).

I think Subaru also changed the connector on the bottom of the aux+USB pod, so switching to an older OEM USB cord won't be an option (it would have been an expensive choice anyway -- more than $80, and you'd still have needed to couple that with an aftermarket USB adapter).

They also changed the XM socket on the new HUs.

However, for the AM/FM antenna connection in previous years, you can skip the Lexus plug that you see at the back of the HU (bypassing that OEM "feeder cord"), and connect directly to an older-style Subaru antenna plug at the floor below the HU. Use a Metra 40-SB10-18 or equivalent (18" long Subaru antenna adapter).

We may find that an alternate OEM feeder cord for a different/older model will take care of interfacing the car's XM antenna to an aftermarket Sirius/XM tuner box.

Just need someone to take a look at the floor below their HU (hint, hint). See if you spot connectors similar to the ones in an Outback that I posted here.

Using a single antenna adapter is the smarter way to go. Every extra inch of coax cable and each extra interconnect junction costs a little loss in the signal. For HD radio and XM, you'll want every bit of signal you can keep.

Same holds for excessive length on USB cords -- you'll reduce the charging current available to your phone or whatever device.

Yes, confirmed -- nothing new on the 6- and 10-pin power/speaker connectors.

All of the other signals are on the 28-pin. Most of the pin-out is the same as what I listed here. Even the factory wire colors are largely the same as in the recent Impreza models with nav that use the 28-pin.

Be sure to see what I posted about SWCs in that first 2015 thread millertime359 linked to. I've sent an inquiry to Metra (Axxess) to see how far along they are with supporting this new SWC configuration.

Most name-brand aftermarket HUs (Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, etc.) do require a steering wheel interface module. A tiny fraction, as well as most no-name Chinese models, can be connected directly to your car's SWC wires -- they have the equivalent functionality built in, with menus to "learn" the car's SWC buttons.

Of course, that's assuming your wheel has audio SWCs. But in 2008-up models that shipped from the factory with the blank panel, the car is pre-wired and you can add the OEM SWC button pod to the wheel.

In recent Impreza and Crosstrek models, you can also gain cruise control just by adding the OEM button pods (search for threads about that).

SVXdc, I am thinking of installing a 2007 Sti HU, AUX ashtray jack (86257SA010) with Clarion harness and 2007 Sti 2 Din under the seat sub (H6300SS900) with new style sub harness into a 2005 WRX Wagon.

Can both the AUX jack and sub be installed and work? I am confused because after reading your threads, I can't figure out if both will work because they both require the same 8 pin port on the back of the 07 Sti HU.

Thanks for your support!

Hey guys, just got an '11 impreza hatch (not wrx) base model with only the 4 speaker setup. I drive a lot and listen to a lot of music and I could tell already when test driving it that the audio seemed lackluster. I plan to upgrade the head unit, but is it also worth upgrading the speakers as well or will a new headunit alone make quite a difference? Also, if you only have the 4 speaker setup, how difficult or practical is it to try and upgrade to 6, or are you better off just upgrading your 4 if you want to touch the speakers at all?

You could also go to wwww.autoharnesshouse.com for a great deal on a harness and fast service. Most case they can build one for cheaper than you could make yourself. You can email Brian at [email protected] for any custom harness needs.

People should have options. Unless someone is a moderator they need to stop attacking people who post things they don't agree with. I realize David SVXdc has been around for a long time here. But that doesn't make ot ok for his friends to attack someone who posts recommendations for other harness makers. Same thing happened on other thread.people here are adults and can make a decision on their own. David's friends need to stop these personal attacks.
