Zero oil pressure
Hi guys. Can anyone give me some insight as to why a jammed shut oil pressure relief valve would have resulted in zero oil pressure? I thought that an oil pressure relief valve jammed shut would cause high pressure, not low or zero...

Agreed.
Are you saying you replaced the oil pump and the problem is fixed? Or, if the source of the problem has not been resolved...have you checked the oil pick-up tube? They can break at the flange where its bolted to the block and not draw oil to the pump. |

The zero pressure happened when starting the engine for the second track session. Engine was cool. No noises from engine (yet) but I guess we will see when I install the new pump.
Almost like the pump was cavitating ( which I know it does not do) but the jammed relief valve is all I can see that is wrong |

Well, I have cut it open and it just looks like a normal filter. Nothing obvious there and filter not blocked.

remove stock oil pressure sender and rotate engine by hand. look, if you have oil coming. if there is empty, fill that channel with oil and try again

I have the pump off the engine at the moment as I am awaiting delivery of a new pump. I really don't want to reinstall the old pump, reset the timing just to try this.
Call me lazy....... This problem is very odd and I am hoping that for whatever reason, the new pump fixes the problem. |

Are you sure the oil pressure sender isn't bad?
When I was a kid, I replaced a fuel pump b/c I didn't realize the car was out of gas. Doh! |

2 separate sensors. Both report a problem.

I have opened up the pump and again, it looks fine. No sign of wear or damage and 3 thou clearance between rotors and backing plate.

I installed another pump today (after I checked it was all fine), started her up and pump is good. Will run the car tomorrow until it is warm, then drain the oil and see if I have any bearing damage.

I bet that was priming issue. even shot oil pump is able to pump some amount of oil with some pressure

Your guess is as good as any, but I just can't see how an oil pump would "unprimed" itself.
Anyway, all good now, and I installed an Accusump while I was at it!!! |
