From EJ22 to EJ25 on 95 Legacy, Is it Possible?
With the Legacy getting a new engine anyway, can anyone tell me what is involved to go from 1995 MAF Eqipped EJ22 to any year EJ25? Is it possible with just a computer and engine?

i had asked this of my mechanic. he said for the amount of money involved in redoing the electrics it would be more feasible to stuff a wrx drivetrain into it and be happy
otherwise, early obd electrics in the 95 require a lot of reworking. getting a 2000-up ej25 motor is worse because almost all the sensors on the engine are not compatible without lots of work. and he dosen't trust the ej22 tranny either... it goes on. |

Its a 5 speed so no worries there. Just the issue of whether or not this is a worthwhile upgrade for a sleeper-type 95.

You will need a 2.5 crossmember, to replace your current 2.2's crossmember. This is the easy part, however.
Given that the EJ25 engine didnt appear untill after the OBDII diagnostics were released in 1996 you will need some rather extensive re-wiring, along with the donar cars ECU. Perhaps someone has some tips on how you can simply swap out a post '96 EJ25's entire wiring harnass with your current cars exsisting harnass ? In the long run I suspect you are better off sticking with the 2.2 liter engine. |

The long awaited supercharger is near completion. That is likely the way to go.

i would not put a super/turbo on a n/a 2.2 or even a 2.5. over in the aftermarket forced induction forum there are always guys posting about how they blew their number 3 piston. wrx swap is the best road if you want power. sti is good if you can afford it. ej22T is good if you have lots of money to upgrade the motor so that its better then the wrx.

Anything 95-up was OBDII...
I wouldn't mind putting a low-boost turbo on an N/A EJ22. Those aren't exactly wussy engines either. The only problem is the 9.5:1 compression of the N/A, that's why I'd go real low boost, maybe 7 tops... |
