Default 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon First glimps of next STI?

Here's the first peek at the STI concept at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon that just opened Today. It's in Japanese but 2:35 in you can see briefly in the background. I'm sure full videos will follow soon.

2020 model year, so we should see them arrive at dealers late 2019.

Viziv concept is definitely very CTR-ish, especially that wing. I don't like the fins or the dips at the edges. Stacked exhaust is pretty ugly too...I'll hold judgment until I see the final production version (which will be toned waaaaay down).

I'll reserve judgement until I know about the power train and how it drives. Subaru never really made handsome cars. The VA is obviously my favorite because it reminds me of an Evo

As pointless as I think subaru design studies are, i think most of us burned last time just roll our eyes and know what they are now. But to make less pointless, why doesnt subaru bring more than just 1% of the design cues to production? 1% being the grille which makes production, 99% being the incredible bodies or even the small details which can make a difference. Why can't 50% of a design study eventually make it to a production car?

Just wondering how they butchered the impreza concept to production too. That was actually named an impreza concept and was more than a design study. Can someone tell me why that body couldn't have made production? If the roof line was to low in the back they couldve just extended the roof and raked it back less sharply. Why did the body have to change so much? I'm not a designer so just curious....

The concept WRX and the finished product wasn't night and day difference. Though it seemed like they leaned a little more towards the Camry design when they should have leaned towards the M3

The rear design with the exhaust placement is absolutely FAPTASTIC!! Now if only they would actually produce it like that, and make is dual exhaust instead of quad...

Its true about the previous concept, the VA does generally have the shapes and forms of what the concept offers -- its the details and angles that changed.

I'm optimistic about the SGP STI. Since they always tone down the concept for production, and that concept is a few notches down from the Type R (imo), it could shape up to be a pretty good looking car judging by the design language.

...I just have 2 things to ask of Subaru: make those brake duct cooling looking intakes functional! and keep those flared fenders please!

It's gonna have to grow on me. I really like the CTR but this dulls down both cars for me.

And also a functional trunk. If there's anything these concepts teach us, it's that the production version always has some more booty.

Not sure if you noticed, but you can pan the video while they're walking and get a pretty good view of it. They're using a 360-degree camera.

You can even pan while it's paused - I did it while the camera was briefly inside the two race cars - could see the whole interior pretty well.
