mac people - hard drive crash question
I'm helping a family member try to recover from a macbook hard drive crash, and I'm not well versed in mac things. I'm searching a bunch on various sites, but personal experience from OT is always appreciated. Said family member can't find install disk currently also. I replaced the hard drive, and was planning to just reinstall the software using the install disk. do I need an install key or anything?
If I can't locate the install disk, are there other options? can't wait to try to recover the data from the non-booting drive PSA - back up your systems, people!

Find discs > insert > hold "c" while booting > follow onscreen directions

it was working just fine, right up to the point where it wouldn't boot. no need for backups.

the battery is dead too, as is the battery in my dell. laptop batteries are severly expensive.

it's probably the oldest and slowest. the battery is bulging out of it's fancy colormatched candy coating, so I'm guessing it's actually dead.
my dell battery still seems to work fine (probably reduced in capacity, I guess), but the bios/firmware is saying it needs to be replaced and isn't recognized. I'm guessing it's an overreaction to the battery catching fire fiasco, but who knows. I'm going to try to recover the files by attaching the SATA drive to a pc with recovery software, unless that's a horrible idea. |
