I know right. Check the partout section. You can usually snag pretty good deals there. That's almost always my first stop.

Slim pickin's lately. There was one guy with an 04 part out and he was willing to ship but every time I ask for a picture of the gears I don't get a response but if I pm and ask if he has it I get a response like 10 minutes later

I'll just keep an eye out.

Pretty much my spider gears are trashed and have a bunch of play in them at the center pin

Can you disassemble that stuff and get new parts from subaru?
(I don't have a service manual handy at the moment so I don't know to what degree that diff can be serviced)

I'm not really sure. I just assumed it would be cheaper to find a complete diff; housing and all but after buying one that was jacked up and waiting forever to get my money back that might be the way to go.

Assuming I'd only need a few parts and it's serviceable.

Unless the RnP is busted, you should just be able to drop in another spool.

I busted my 4.44 R160 a few years back, ended up getting a cheap 04 wrx dif internals and chucking them in. Last 20k before I ended up pulling it for an R180.

Ring an pinion are fine. As far as I can tell all the bearings are good too. All the play is the spider gears.

I bought it with mismatched worn tires and its always made noise but it's for sure getting worse.

On subaruparts.com it looks like you can get the "side gear" for $64, "side gear washer" for $2, "pinion shaft" for $5, and the "pinion gears" for $34 each (not to be confused with the "ring and pinion", a separate $465 item). Based on your description it sounds like those may be the parts you need.

Hmmm under $200 (assuming with shipping) isn't too bad. I should pull it back out of the car and pull the cover to verify that's all the parts id need. Thanks for looking that up buddy!

I'd vote for using a local wholeseller for subaru parts online.
