Ed05WRX - My guess would be something back by the charcoal canister or gas tank that deals with releasing tank pressure while filling it with gas.

My shop deleted the purge control solenoid on my intake manifold. I don't think they touched anything in the rear near the characoal cannister though.

Essentially they put a cap on the intake manifold nipple. They then routed the gas tenk vent hose near the fuel lines to under the car so I wouldn't smell it. The fact that it is vented to atmosphere - is this bad?

The "C" fuel line has nothing plugged into it on either end. My though was to connect the gas tank vent line back to it, and then plug the other end right back into the intake manifold, WITHOUT any purge solenoid. Bad idea? I'm getting re-tuned soon anyways once I get my new motor in.

EDIT: Sounds like it's best to leave my setup as-is. Routing this line directly to the intake manifold might be a bad idea since it could potentially pull high vacuum on the gas tank.

What id hose are you using? I have tried 1/4 " and it seems snug, but I am still having a vacuum leak and have thrown a P0457 code a couple of time recently.

I'm actually not sure. It looks like the shop used some hose that appears to be similar in size to the hose coming into the engine bay from the fuel tank. It's literally routed to under the car and zip-tied into place, and it's simply open on the end and vented to atmosphere.

If it helps anyone I have an 04 WRX and it's routed just as IA says it should be and I don't experience any problems like the people listed in this thread.

I did however have a problem reading the diagrams and pictures at the time I did it (they were not IA's diagrams) the views were kind of obscure and sometimes hard to understand so if it's helpful You've got your solenoid with two connections, one closest to the solenoid (labeled B in the diagram above) and one farther away (labeled A in the diagram above) Looking at diagram "a" for people with my "group" car the solenoid valve labeled "A" gets connected to the nipple pictured in the diagram on the left hand side, second picture down. That nipple that comes off the intake manifold and then shoots directly downward gets connected to solenoid valve "A"

Then the other connections are easy by process of elimination.

I don't know what happens if you reverse it. The reason I don't know that is because I took great care and time into making sure I connected it right in the first place which was not easy because there was all sorts of conflicting advice, and different routing for different years, WRX vs. STI, JDM's etc. IA Performance has taken the mystery out of it for many people so bravo to you sir.

Your thoughts are correct. The car would have EVAP issues if the intake manifold went directly to the gas tank evap hose.

ogintheback - you could try 3/16" ID hose, although that may be a bit too tight.

claythrow - Thank you for the feedback The hose routing can definitely get confusing, more so with the newer 2008+ models too.

The opposite happened to me, the nipple going to the manifold broke. I've bypassed the purge valve (diaphragm) already, but is it ok to drive around the the EVAP line hooked up and the solenoid basically venting to atmosphere while I wait for a replacement?

spiralsmurf - if I understand this correctly, the hose coming from the intake manifold, going directly to the solenoid, is venting to atmosphere? If this is correct, then you need to plug the hose with something. Otherwise, the car is sucking in unmetered air and running lean during vacuum situations and overly rich during positive manifold situations (part and full throttle). I would replace the broken solenoid sooner than later. I do not believe venting to atmosphere is hurting anything, but you want to rule out any type of leaks going to or from the turbo inlet and intake manifold.

No no, I plugged the nipple on the manifold. Only the solenoid itself is venting, exactly the same if I removed the it altogether. I am getting another solenoid though.

follow up question. IA Performance, on the previous page, is a 2005 usdm STi diagram "B"?

I think it makes no difference, once the solenoid is open, air can flow in either direction.

I actually just pulled a code for my purge control valve solenoid. Anyone know what would cause the solenoid to fail? I don't want to replace it and have to replace it again if there's some bigger causing it. I have an '06 WRX wagon with 40k miles.

Check all the lines that connect to purge valve check all evap hoses. Little leaks could cause that.

I check all hoses and connections, and it seemed like everything was intact. Would there be another reason behind it?

1.) Faulty canister vent solenoid
2.) Faulty canister purge solenoid
3.) Faulty fuel cap
4.) EVAP system hose malfunction

I know it's not the fuel cap. I tried a new one and the CEL didn't shut off.

My guess is the canister vent solenoid.

That was my first thought. I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't an underlying problem. Know where I can find one for cheap?

I think those things are about $45 new from autozone or rockauto. The purge solenoid is actually $90 oem so hopefully it's the vent solenoid.

Autozone doesn't carry them. I can't even order them in their system. It looks like I have to buy direct.
