I like the idea of the cartridges, but I would've preferred if you could just put in whatever SSD in yourself, and it'll format it properly for you.

I also wonder if the cartridges might have that issue where you have to take hem out and blow on them to make em work?

This plan worked so well for the Vita ... I'm glad Sony learned that expensive proprietary memory cards are the way to move forward.

It's almost like MS and Sony are destined to switch places every generation ... arrogant Sony is back and MS can't wait for the next gen to begin

I think it's more like... Instead of building different PS5s with different size internal storage capability, they're going to build one console with one fixed internal memory allocation, and "additional" storage will be the SSD cartridges.

They'll probably also disable the capability to add external drives.

So we have come full circle back to cartridges, but now they are flexible and way more expensive. Yea...

Upside, I will have multiple 5's (dam kids ) so at least I can just swap the cartridges?

I really want to know how many hours they took to decide on that PS5 logo. Did their designers **** the bed so bad that the had to fall back on this? Or did they really spend a lot of hours simply shooting the **** around before deciding on it?

Those are all probably true. Just for giggles....

https://www.google.com/search?q=ps+4...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Sony rep did say this:

Quote:
Speaking with Business Insider Japan, as translated by Gematsu, newly minted PlayStation boss Jim Ryan explained the reasoning behind the design: "It is important to give off a sense of consistency for products within the PlayStation brand," he said. "It is a must for anyone who sees [the logo] to immediately and positively think, ***8216;That's PlayStation'."
Weak.

I've read otherwise:

Quote:
A leaker says he's able to confirm that the PS5's backward compatibility feature will not be limited to the PS4, but will extend all the way back to the first-gen PlayStation.

According to HipHopGamer, Sony has been working since 2012 to make the feature possible, and it'll all be part of Sony's "everything everywhere" mantra. That is, players who have purchased many PlayStation titles since the original console was launched will be able to re-experience them all on the new PS5. The leaker says he's been able to verify this information already, and it should all be treated as more than just rumor or speculation. Moreover, ComicBook says HipHopGamer has an accurate track record at reporting scoops.

The leaker said that the Remastering Engine the PS5 is getting will not only allow players to play older games on the new machine, but old games might also be enhanced to deliver a more modern gameplay experience.

I'll believe it when it's confirmed, especially with their stupid cell processor stuff from the PS3.

The next generation consoles are basically PC's at this point, and third party PS3 emulators are getting to be pretty usable at this point. With first party support I could see them emulating it on the rumored hardware.

I'm excited for a 7nm cell processor for some reason. Probably because I tried not to play my PS3 for years now because it overheats so much.

So SSD carts makes no sense which is what leads me to believe it to be false. The whole reason why everyone went to disc is because it could hold more data than carts AND that media was way cheaper to produce.

Why release games on a format that costs you more???

It's about $0.04-$0.06 per gig right now, and DVD is limited to 4.6GB. If they found a way to make solid state media cheaply? Like mass produced read-only at $1/per? Why not?
