Would this be another pivotal point of price change on games, starting at $69.99+ instead of $59.99

I stopped buying games brand new at full price years ago. I wait for the price drop a year later. Hell, I got the Witcher 3 and it's two expansion games for $25.

All I really care about is HZD2, God of war 6? Last of us 2, Cyber Punk,

A new Socom would be cool, maybe Splinter cell remake, and a good solid FPS.

I actually just Platinum'd HZD the other day - picked it up for $16 on Amazon couple months back. Don't know how I missed it when it came out

You don’t even need to wait a year anymore. I picked up Borderlands 3 two months after release for half price. I put games on my wish list and check in every few weeks. If the sale looks decent, I buy them when they’re heavily discounted. I haven’t paid full price in over a year and I still have a backlog of games to get through. Too many games ... too little time (though the next 3 months might be interesting since everything is shutting).

CDkeys dot com?

In reference to the vision Sony has for instant loading of geometry and textures; I'm thinking about racing games. Right now, racing games rely pretty heavily on visual trickery to simulate the appearance of speed even when games are 60fps or better. Motion blur and a fisheye lens effect are common and they both bug me. I wonder if Sony's promise for instant loading of geometry and textures will lead to a more convincing sense of speed in racing games by way of faster loading and more densley populated environments that hadn't been possible in prior gens. They did state that character movement was often driven by how quickly environments could load.

Anyway. I'm excited to find out.

I'm here for the next Gran Turismo.

That being said, the base hardware stats do lean towards the Xbox, though at this level I'm not sure how many titles would actually fully utilize the difference so much that it would be obvious side by side.

I think the PS5 is leaning towards a little more energy efficiency and streaming, whereas the Xbox will be superior for local gaming. Also, they could be angling to make a 'Pro' version as others have said.

https://developer.dolby.com/blog/spa...o-and-the-ps5/
The developers at Dolby have politely corrected the BS that Cerny said about Atmos. I'm certain it'll be good in it's own way but they just didn't want to pay Dolby for their product.

Quote:
Spatial Audio and the PS5
March 20, 2020 by Lori Solomon
This week, we heard Mark Cerny, Lead System Architect on the PS5, talk about the system architecture on the new console and how it will shape the future of games.

No doubt, this is going to be a very exciting time for game developers and players alike, and we look forward to hearing what the future will bring in the way of spatial audio in new titles.

We wanted to take this opportunity to provide information about Dolby Atmos for console and PC games, as a lot of information was shared, and you may have some questions.

Starting with the most pressing question***8230;***8230;***8230;.

Q- Is it true Dolby Atmos is capped at 32 objects?

No, that is incorrect. As a technology, Dolby Atmos can support hundreds of simultaneous objects.

That being said, we fall back on sage advice from developers of some of the first Atmos games: Objects are a fantastic tool, but restraint should be shown with respect to the number of objects active at any time. Too many objects in motion can create a confusing soundscape.

Developers have also told us that avoiding the horizontal "bed" for an all-object mix is an unnecessarily time-consuming and labor-intensive effort. So far, developers are creating next-generation mixes by blending bed audio and object audio. More is good, but more may not necessarily be "better."

Q- What do you think of Sony's mission to bring 3D audio to everyone?

Sony's mission to bring 3D audio to everyone on PS5 is exciting, it reminds us of when we began the Dolby Atmos for games journey many years ago. There are now hundreds of millions of Dolby Atmos enabled products in the market, across several product categories (TV, AVR, soundbar, mobile phone, pc, game console, headsets). Dolby Atmos is also available at a wide range of prices - even as low as $15.

Q- Sony announced a deep focus on 3D audio. How does that impact Dolby?

We are thrilled that Sony is dedicated to using 3D audio in its new console. This can only be interpreted as a validation of the work we have done across all entertainment genres in implementing Dolby Atmos on the devices consumers use today. We will continue forward with our mission to ensure Dolby Atmos is supported as the standard in 3D audio on all endpoints.

Q- What is the impact of Sony's audio platform: Tempest 3D Audio Tech?

Similar to Microsoft's Windows Sonic Spatial Audio Platform, audio teams will rejoice that they have a powerful 3D audio platform to deliver their craft on PS5. We think this is a crucial milestone for game studios. We are excited to hear that Sony has committed to an evolution of its audio by establishing a bona-fide 3D audio platform for PS5. "Tempest" is not only a great name, but a great reference to one of our favorite arcade classics, as well.

As much as I hate to admit it, for it's reasons. I think they're kinda required to run leaner.

Which is why I worry we may see a Nintendo type relegation or worse. there's just soo much going on.

I'm guessing the console itself will be white with black trim then.

Should've gone with a grey color. XBox went black so I figured they wouldn't go that route again like the ps4. Not sure about the controller yet either

It had better have at the least PS4 compatability. I would like to see every generation but I doubt that unfortunately. Would be awesome for fans, but probably costly for Sony who is already making these and selling them for nearly at-cost from what I hear, possibly even a loss.

The GI in that Assassin's Raider demo was impressive. I'm interested to see what CDPR has in store for their GI in Cyberpunk since one of the devs in an interview said they were really proud of it.

A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

Yea I had read that before. I know there had been some confusion a few days after the tech demo 2 months or so ago, and I had read along those lines during research into it. I haven't bothered to see if they are going to include any other previous PS compatibility. Wonder if they couldn't make that an option later, such ans selling an additional disc reader that would work with a built in emulator inside the PS5 firmware. I'd pay for it so I could play everything on one console.

Apparently that real time animation demo was running at 1440p without ray tracing.
